Hello all.

I bought a Pulse Scout 49 in March 2015. It had 3000 miles on the clock and is a 2012 reg. It has had its first MOT in June and all was ok once I replaced the rear shock absorber.

I have had nothing but problems with this bike (yes I know chinese bikes are pretty crap but I couldn't afford anything better at the time).

My problem now is that on my way home from work one day the belt snapped. I then got a replacement part and then realised that I needed an impact drill thing to take the big nut off the variator. So I waited weeks until I could find a garage in Brighton that would even entertain the idea of even thinking about my bike. (Round here no-one wants anything to do with them)
Once my other half had removed all debris and the old belt, put the new one on and hey presto it worked. HOWEVER... this is my problem..

When I bought the bike, it was unrestricted. I could easily get to 45mph on a straight road, though up hill was about 10mph.
Now my bike has a new belt (Exactly the same size as previous belt that snapped), I am not sure why but its restricted again... I cannot go past 30mph.
I bought a new variator kit (which had lighter rollers) and I installed that. Got up hills much faster but still nothing past 30mph top speed. With the lighter rollers id does sound like it's over revving in my ears but i dunno :/

I just do not understand how a simple belt change has restricted my bike again. Sorry for the long winded story but I basically need to get to 40-45mph again somehow. I have tried changing the fuel/air thing, tried moving the disc on the needle in the carburettor, changed the variator and the rollers and even the belt. I dunno what to do and I'm a newbie.. this is my first bike lol!!

So... you've changed the rollers.

Have you considered getting some that were the same as your previous ones. Changing the variator set up will change the speed and acceleration.

I changed the variator and the rollers inside were lighter. It sounded to me that they were over revving so I changed them back to the standard ones that are still great condition with no flat sides at all :/

I just don't get how a belt change caused me to be restricted again?

So you've put the original ones back in, the ones where you could get 40+

yup. the only difference in changing between the original rollers and the new ones is that with the new ones, i have much better acceleration and can still hit 30mph.

So what part of the variator did you change, just the rollers?

First of all it was just the belt that was changed, nothing else. That is when the speed problem happened. My bike will not go over 30mph. not even 31mph!! (that's including down a hill)

So I bought this https://www.chinesemotorcyclepartsonline.co.uk/partno_VAR001.php

Then because rollers were lighter and I thought it sounded odd, I changed the rollers back to the originals, but kept the new variator on.

Sure you weren't reading the old speed in KPH?

45Kph = 28Mph = Speed of a restricted ped.

Derestricted a Chinese 4T 50cc still doesn't do 45 Mph (unless you find a bloody huge hill). 35-ish on a good day meaning if you were reading 45 Mph your speedo is insanely inaccurate or you were reading Kph.

I had to replace clutch, variator and fit an 80CC Bore kit to see 45 Mph on mine (Pug Vclic... identical ped to your pulse scout).

Absolutely positive it is not faulty or reading it wrong. My bike was hitting 45 Mph (not kph). Up hills it was about 10mph though. Was so awful as Brighton where I live is very hilly.

I know it's right as I was riding along the seafront with my brother on his motorbike along side me, and he asked how the hell was my bike doing 45mph top speed.
So my speedometer and his were reading the same thing.

I don't eve need to go 45! 40 would be amazing and that's all i want. I just dunno what to do Sad
