Trackdays help Cool

Towards the end of the year the tyres were very worse for wear. Loads of tread in the middle but had to replace them as zero on the sides Sad

Maybe 4-5mm on the rear of the GSXR, but mostly used for commuting.
It does also depend how much you hang off - probably none on the rear if I didn't hang off at all.
I'm confident I DID get to the limits of the tyres on my SV race bike - ie going around a corner and not only being right on the edge of traction (bike starting to slide) but surpassing it a few times and ending on my arse, when only having gone a little quicker than a previous time.
However, as I tended to hang my whole body off quite a lot, there was still some noticeable chicken strips.

No a great pic, but it's about the only one that shows my back tyre enough to guage them.

And front:

https://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h309/L4_Isoside/DSCF1687.jpg

Basically the only "strips" i have are from the last weeks daily commute (and in the rain)..its been about a week since i last went for a good ride, due to weather etc.

Other than that i think the only strip's I had where a bit on the front and very slight on the back (IIRC) left hand side. But i cant remember fully.

Its kinda hard to tell, but i think there are some strips there on the front.

I've got a few mm either side of my rear, and more at the front, but I call them my 'planning ahead strips'. If you're planning far enough ahead you don't need to have it that far over.

Here is another example of my 'strips ... this one was a 2nd hand track tyre when I got it ... you can clearly see the original strip (minimal) and then the new one that I made (maximal)!! https://fc06.deviantart.com/images3/i/2004/176/3/f/Top_Hat_Emote.gif ... you can also see it 'squaring off' a bit!! Very Happy

I've never really had any until now.

Since I've not ridden for roughly a year+ I'm finding it hard to regain confidence in leaning never mind getting of what strips there is, which is a shame cos my willy waving is minimal atm. Sad

Soon as my bike is roadworthy I'm going to document what they are like 'then' and how long it takes to get 'em scrubbed right off. Cool

Looking at the track bikes, are those tyres very soft compound?

I saw a Ducati parked-up the other day with the rear tyre showing shredded rubber like that and it just suggested "expensive" to be running tyres like that on the road.

ps. My rear tyre doesn't have strips, although the (big 18") front has a few mm -I don't really hang off much.

My Pilot Power 2ct's looked the same when I bought my bike as the previous owner used it on track. After a few rides it was back to normal.

If you buy new track tyres for the road, very expensive, yes.
If you buy second hand ones from as little as £30 for a decent set (if you’re very lucky anyway), it can actually be a fair bit cheaper than using normal ‘road’ tyres.

not 'very' but pretty soft. need to be hard enough not to be completely shredded after one outing tho.

the trackbike in my pic has supercorsa's on. road legal track biased tyres. so pretty soft but will still last on the road longer than 5mins. twas after 3 sessions at mallory park and mallory eats tyres

my other trackbike has BT016s on, a normal sports tyre and that looked exactly the same after a day at cadwell.

its just what happens to tyres on trackdays, but after some normal riding it soon smooths out again. can normally get a good few trackdays out of one set depending on your riding/tyre of course

only time you'll be shredding them really quickly is if your bike isnt set up right or you're too agressive. the ideal is some bobbling at the sides and crazy paving effect across it, if you're showing tearing you're not smooth enough Smile

new rear and front after 50-60 miles and with a new ohlins rear so not 100% confident in it yet
