Has anyone any experience of making their own carbon fibre panels?

I'm considering having a go at it but just looking at options really.

I've got a few infill panels that I'd like to do in c/f and was initially planning on skinning them in real c/f fabric and resin. I'm doing it purely for aesthetic reasons so adding weight (or the lack of saving any) isn't a factor really. I've some experience working with fibreglass and resins and I'm quite confident in getting a decent result doing a c/f skin but it got me thinking.... If I'm putting a skin on, why not use release wax and make a new panel rather than just adding to the original?

Surely I could just release the skin then add some c/f to the rear to reinforce it?

I suppose the proper way to do it would be to make a fibreglass cast from the panel first and then apply the c/f to the inside of that but I just see a lot more potential for error doing it that way (and wasting expensive c/f weave) with the fabric being much more fiddly to lay and with the chance / likelihood of air bubbles etc. I'm not concerned about the panels being mm exact to their original size so doing a skin first then reinforcing at the back seems logical? Confused

Quite a different kettle of fish really and not what I'm hoping to achieve (although very impressive if he made a nice a job of it).

I'm not sure if it will work or not but I can foresee some potential issues the more I think about it. I think I'll just order a small sheet of c/f twill and have a play at it on a couple of small bits and try out the theory, will be a learning experience if nothing else.
