I wouldn't, but yes you can, it's your exhaust afterall. It is an open exhaust, so removing the cotton won't help the performance. Smile

Hi. Thank you for responding. How would it affect the performance and how much. I'm sorry but I don't understand what an open exhaust is. Sorry.

Take a pic from further back ... its difficult to see if someone has already removed the Db killer ...... if they have then your exhaust is as loud as it was designed to be without turning it into an open pipe.

Open exhaust (straight pipe, no restrictions):

Non-opened exhaust (full of restrictions and there are even more complicated exhausts):

Yes, you have got an open exhaust there. The nut that you can see inside is where the Db killer was once mounted. Thumbs Up

I think it's already out and someone refitted the bolt it was held in with.

You are zoomed too far in to show the baffle. The nut / bolt arrangement that is out of focus at the bottom of your picture is typically what holds the baffle in. The baffle just restricts the aperture of the exhaust's exit.

With the baffle removed, you'll probably get worse fuel economy. You probably won't get any noticeable power difference; performance at low revs will probably be lower due to less back-pressure. You will annoy your neighbours.

[edit] Yup, it's been removed already.

Really grateful for all your replies. Thank you!

So basically this is as loud as my bike can be then I guess? Its a shame.

Its a lot quieter than the bikes that wake me up at crack of dawn while blasting past my house.

Crying or Very sad

You could insert a pipe inside the exhaust to cover up the perforated pipe that's there. You could also ''stubby'' the exhaust, I would never do that. OR find an exhaust end can with bigger diameter of the inner pipe. My mate has got an Yoshimura exhaust, which has bigger diameter of the inner pipe, than what I've got on my motorcycle. We once tried to swap the cans, and the noise that came out of the Yoshimura on my motorcycle, was way beyond my comfort zone. Thumbs Up

DO NOT be tempted to just rip the filling of the exhaust out. The heat will burn through the casing of the exhaust. Thumbs Up

You can always cut the can down or just take it off aka 'racefit' if you want to be particularly antisocially loud.

Once again thanks for your responses.

Have been considering chopping it just not sure how it would effect the bikes performance. Would it cause any issues?

How much can I chop without causing any problems?

Buy another can, in worse condition, get it cheaply enough, cut that. Don't ruin a perfectly alright exhaust when you don't even know if you're gonna like it or not. Thumbs Up

You're gonna need a drill and some rivets to re-assemble it again, once you're done cutting.

Nobody really knows without the dyno test. Thumbs Up

I had scorpions on my busa. Were loud even with the db killers in.

Are you sure you aren't deaf. Shocked

It isn't actually Carbon Fiber, the can is stainless steel, it's a wrap around the outside that is cf (real cf matting, not pretend plastic stuff)

For what it's worth I don't think you'll need to cut it down, it is loud as it is.

Not too badly for a bastardised CBR900RR Wink

But I modified a few other bits on there too (I only cut the exhaust down because a previous owner had acquired a large dink halfway along it's length).

You may need to check your mixtures/jets.
Not sure by how much because I also *cough* chucked away the fuel pump and airbox (fitted cones) Wink

I remember when I was 16 , my scooter was not very loud so I cut the exhaust off Mr. Green
Just had the down pipe , it was loud , it was so loud a police man was waiting for me when I rode into town , he said I have heard you coming for miles.

Yes he gave me a ticket to get the exhaust replaced in 7 days , it was fun for a few days anyway Razz ....

Ok just a quick update. Fitted a slightly gutted exhaust. Its loud as hell which I enjoyed for a day but....

Bike feels flat. Doesn't feel as nippy as it used to.

Soooo.... After all this I think ill go back to my old exhaust Razz

Sorry...
