i have just bought some new mirrors for my Harley Fxrs , i undid the original ones , when i went to put news ones on the one by the throttle fitted perfectly and tightened up as it should , the other one was very loose so i put some thread lock on but it stll isnt tight , i have checked the size and they are both the same , i took it of and tried it on the throttle side and it fitted like it should , so i think the hole on clutch side is slightly bigger, does anybody know of a way i can make either the mirror stem a bit wider or the hole smaller .

By any chance did you over tighten the left-handed thread* while trying to undo it and strip the thread?

*That is if Harley do reverse threads on the left mirrors like other manufacturers. Hold the bolts together, do they slope in the same direction?

Edit:

they dont have bolts on they screw into the housing . i would drill out the hole and put a bolt on the bottom but the tread on mirror stem is not long enough to go through the housing

It sounds like it needs to be shimmed up a touch. My clutch lever is forever coming slack on the bars and I shim it with a bit of emery cloth, a leather tassel would do the job fine.
