I Kinda like this, nice round headlight. 75hp and 8kg lighter than the old model.

Would like to see a few more angles, but looks okay so far.

Oh, Suzuki.

They brought out the Gladius / SFV60 to replace the ancient SV, but look who's still standing. Laughing

The round headlight is actually pretty brave considering the penchant for pointy-squiggly ones now.

Presumably it'll get ABS, but good luck selling it with a price starting with the same number as the MT-07.

Posted this on FB this morning in response to MCN's unveiling story
I'm guessing more of same old boring tripe that's made their sales of the past so poor and the reason they're constantly punting on pre-reg bikes at bargain basement prices because they've not shifted. But I'll be pleased if I'm wrong

But I wasn't wrong was I

The thing I actually like is the 200cc van van. I like the van van and now it's got a bit more useable power I may well buy one

It does look quite like a Gladius with a proper round headlight, rather than a weird blob. As such, an improvement.

Looking at the frame, it looks like SV pegs and exhaust hanger, but more like an SFV (Gladius) front trellis. I do wonder if it's as much (or more) SFV than SV. Is this really a renaming exercise to finally bury the Gladius brand? Thinking

Yeah shades of monster to it. The van van is sort of somehow copying the scrambler too albeit it would be somewhat the other way round but whatever

It will definitely be affordable - they'll be on special limited time only sale constantly

It does appear that it's only Yamaha and to a lesser extent Kawasaki who are trying to innovate and bring out new tech and exciting edgy designs now among the Japs.

People have not been overly impressed with the new recent models from Honda (though I think they are good at what they do), and Suzuki are far from finished as a two wheel vehicle brand, but they are not putting any serious effort into it now.

It's a shame, they have some good idea's, and heritage or making class leading VFM bikes that were real every mans bikes (Bandit etc).
They still have some good engines too, but they don't utilise them fully. I said years ago that to get their moneys worth out of the GSX1340R engine, it should also have gone into a muscle bike, a cruiser, and adventure bike and it's quite good in cars and for high performance Marine use too.

Can you survive in 2015 with just using a new engine design in one sole model of vehicle? I think no personally.

One thing is for sure, they need to bring out that sports/sporty tourer 650cc turbocharged twin cyl bike right now! It would be easy for Yamaha, or Honda to bring out something with a turbo for 2016, so I think it's so vital for Suzuki that they get there first and do it before Kawasaki start strapping on their blower design to smaller more relevant bikes too!

The Van Van 200 makes a whopping 16hp. Went on sale in Japan in 2002.

Aren't we lucky.

No, please say it isn't so Sad I was hoping it was something more like 20bhp at least and then it'd be worthwhile.

Only knew one guy who imported one about five or six years ago. Said it wasn't worth the effort/expense as the performance increase was negligible. Seem to recall that he managed to get it up to 75mph or thereabouts although it was quicker off the mark than the 125. I can't see how they could improve on the output figures but how else are they going to sell them? £3.5k just for funky looks?

As for the new SV, it certainly looks more like a lightly tweaked Gladius, although that's not a bad thing. Great engines and cheap(ish).

The biggest problem is that it's still an SV... despite Paddy's best efforts to eradicate them from existence they're like mold. They multiply when you're not looking.

howmanyleft reckons a whisker over 10,000 still registered, plus god knows how many SORNed or Paddied.

Cockroaches with damp front holes. Huh, I see they haven't bothered doing anything about the inadequate front mudguard.

Incidentally, TFA claims that it's 8kg lighter than the "outgoing SFV" (@202kg / 205kg ABS), not 8kg lighter than the current SV650S. That would make it 194kg or more likely 197kg with ABS (and it'll surely have ABS), 1kg more than the SV.

Should be some good bargains even by Suzuki standards on the last of the SFVs if that floats your boat. Owners do seem to really like them, they just priced them too high to begin with and then got mugged by the MT-07.

A month ago, when I was considering what bike to buy I remember thinking: "why doesnt Suzuki just make an updated bandit with an updated SV engine?" Lol here it comes. A bit late though, I am a happy hornet rider.

They'll probably sell a fair few to VanVan devotees initially, but the market might be exhausted fairly quickly.

What I am sure does not help the VanVan's case is that it still takes approximately one thimble of fuel at a time. Somewhat more forgivable on the 125 but the 200 is presumably going to sacrifice some of the mpg. I hope buyers like the view from the inside of a petrol station.

I do quite like the looks at least of the SV650. I hope to eventually be in the market for something relatively practical and friendly to ride, especially in traffic, and it sounds like it ticks some boxes. MCN predict that RRP will be £5,199 but that sounds hopelessly optimistic to me. Pretty sure it will be listed for at least the same as the ABS Gladius, which is only a couple of hundred shy of an ABS MT-07, over and above any offers they may do.

They can list it for anything that they like, but it's not going to sell for north of £5K.

It will be interesting to see what happens to the floor price of bikes once ABS is mandatory on everything 126cc+.

Perhaps one to keep an eye out for then, assuming I can find a decent Suzuki dealer reasonably local.

I'm still holding out some hope that manufacturers will drop prices a touch but early indications seem to be that they are just sticking to the regular price and dropping the non-ABS version. I guess it depends on how much this policy hurts sales...

Looks like they've just bolted the SV650N headlight on to a Gladius?
