Hi all

My old zx7r is not starting when hot. It cranks over fine but no bang. haven't smelt the exhaust to see if it's flooding.

Starts eventually when left to stand and cool.

My guess is compression, it gets hot and valve clearances close up and then I'll check the pilot screw settings make sure it's not to lean but besides that is their anything I could be missing?

Could be tight valve clearances mostly give poor starting when hot and poor hot idle

But too rich mixture will also give same symptoms

just the age and condition of the spark plugs , leads and connections... as said likely valve clearances.. but I would at least have a look at the colour of the plugs.

While the spark plugs are out then it would be ideal to perform a compression test. This tool is one of the most used diagnostic aids in my garage Thumbs Up

I don't think you would need to, if it was flooding you should be able to smell it just sitting on the bike and without sticking your nose in the can.

Could be so many things but if the valve clearances haven't been done in a while then (as others have said) suspect that could be the issue.
