Today I did bought my first big bike won a thundercat on eBay a mile or so from my house. Went to see it today and it looks pretty good, aftermarket fairing kit is a bit marmite but I like it, I'm told second gear is fine with no issues mechanically but wasn't insured to test his claims so bit of a gamble.
For the price I am paying I have some money out of budget to buy some bits too!

Why not, I brought my bike 200 miles north and had it transported down, guy seemed honest got on with him on the phone. All good, I knew shit about bikes, so HPI check was my friend, honest wear, mileage checked out, not messed with. I can tell more sniffing the oil and checking the plugs then riding, I wouldn't have known what to feel for.. Sniffing the oil will tell you a lot same as the plugs don't hide stuff, quick look over, sniff oil, didn't check the plugs just looked honest, smelt honest was honest. HPI checks are your friend but you must check all vin and block numbers.
Just one thing, why the after market fairing and pipe, is the pipe new? HPI it dude, oil should smell like oil, if unsure take your mates, missus newish car pull the dip stick and smell that , good oil, good engine.. If it smells like the last drumstick on the bbq somethings a miss..
Good luck dude |

oil was changed a few days ago as was coolant, even showed me the old oil but tbf i didn't think to smell it
original end can is available with it and not sure why its had replacement fairings. i can only assume the originals were tatty but was apparently done by previous owner.
Couldn't see any damage to the frame so i'm hopeful. Second gear is my main worry right now, the rest is not a major issue |

Nice bike!
What the fairing? It's possible I know of it (Yamaha Thundercats forum omnipotence). ____________________

I don't want to be this lad, but most of the times, if someone puts aftermarket fairings on a bike, the motorcycle was dropped or crashed. The claim about second gear is also rather suspicious. Not being insured is rather convenient for him, I'd say.
I hope this won't be another: I bought a lemon, thread. ____________________ '87 Honda XBR 500, '96 Kawasaki ZX7R P1, '90 Honda CB-1, '88 Kawasaki GPz550, MZ 150 ETZ

Win.
Rode it back without issue. Still getting used to the il4. Rode the gpz after and it felt agricultural compared
Will be taking it out for a ride shortly to confirm gears etc but so far so good.
Things to note are it needs a brake service as I hear a set of pads scraping a bit but nothing I can't sort out. Will be stripping the fairing off to check everything over this weekend for peace of mind
Happy chappy |

First ride review. It's as quick as I'd need a bike to be lol for now at least. Still buzzing from new bike syndrome
It rides pretty well, although first to second gear isn't as smooth as I'd like it doesn't pop out in second at the red line and I don't want to rag the shit out of first as when I did the front wheel shot up in the air and I shot an irregular amount of poo out from behind as I really wasn't expecting it
Pics to follow in the sun light |
