Rebuilt a fucked laptop for someone, it is a Packard Bell which appear to have really shit drive support. This laptop has many names by all accounts AJ300, MX53, ALP Ajax C3. None of which are on the website.

Something is screwy with the WiFi, I have to use Fn+F2 to turn it on after every reboot. Now according to the keyboard Fn+F2 doesn't do anything. I assumed this was a keyboard driver issue I found some drivers but it would not install citing a missing file C:/Drivers/Atk0100/dpinst.exe. Atk appears to be some advanced keyboard thing. I looked for a version for this but couldn't find anything. Installed a version for an ASUS laptop and it has enabled the rest of the hot keys (they weren't working before.) But didn't contain a dpinst.exe

Is there another way to set the wifi to automatically turn on? I have looked in the BIOS and in the adapter setting but can't find anything.

Some mental machines really won't turn it on. I had to script it at startup on my mother's laptop, although I don't recall the make/model or the script.

Since you're unlikely to be able to generate a Fn key event (it's a hardware thang), I'd suggest having a look at DevCon to enable the device from a startup script.

Is an old fashioned early vista thing. Fujitsu and Packard Bell were the worst for it, Roger has the right of this one, use a script on startup to enable it.

Fujitsu

Rings a bell. Ah, yes, that's the fellow. Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo, I blagged this vbs script to start the wireless GUI and click the 'turn it on, idiots' button.

Does your Packard Bell have a similar app, or is it keypresses only?

Any luck with DevCon? I haven't actually used it for a good while, it may have rotted in the dark.

A windows update appears to have fixed it Confused I've been rebooting it all day yesterday and having to turn the WiFi on. I left it doing updates yesterday. Come back this morning and Wifi was on after a reboot, I thought that was odd rebooted again and it seemed to be fine. Not sure what has changed Laughing
