I was going over the my bikes tyres today and spotted this, I've tried to see if anything is stuck in the tyre but it seems like whatever cause the damage has gone.

What I'm now wondering is if this damage is enough to require replacing. Any thoughts?

the sidewall scratch is nothing to be concerned about I'd say. The main issue will be that puncture mark. What you need to do is take some sort of tool and see if you can find out how deep it is. If it's only a couple of mm deep, then it'll be fine.

I would not think twice about the puncture mark, but the sidewall damage would make me want to investigate how deep it was cut.

Looks like it was a recent incident what with the rust spot still being visible.
A small jeweler's screwdriver or similar and some gentle probing will tell you if anything is embedded and how deep the cut is.

Personally, I'd replace but that's because I take pillions and use motorways.

One thing I picked up on whilst watching the Tour de France (stick with me..) is that small cuts in tyres can lead to more punctures and moreso when it is raining. Grit gets in easier when it's raining.

Ah thanks for the replies. I took a look around the cuts there doesn't seem to be anything there and I'd hate to waste a practically new tyre, since it's only a city bike I'll probably just ride with them and keep my eye on the marks.

I'd waggle around in the puncture with pointed pliers to check there's nothing embedded in it. Apart from that I wouldn't worry too much.
