Every lid I have owned has let some air around the visor and into my eyes. I dont notice often, until cold winter air gets very distracting or some dirt gets in my eyes. My shark S900 seems a bit worse for this than the S600, AVG S4 and other lids I have had, but they have all done it and I cant remember how much. I bought it Jan 2014 and its done over 20k miles which may be why.

Is this common or just getting old? Sharks fit my head well. No idea what the newer models are like? nowhere decent to try them on here.

Never had a problem with dirt getting around the visor, cold air I usually end up with a cold band on my forehead and in heavy rain I get a few drops running down the inside of the visor, but never really bothered me as all my lids have been cheap anyway (still using the £30 one from Lidl)

I have zero air coming within my visor on my Shark lid, sounds to me like the seal has failed.

Hi,

I went from a AVG.. To a shoei GTAir, the GT has a rubber seal that seals the visor, you even get a little tube of silicon oil to run around the seal, but I've not need to use the oil, good lid if you have a shoei head..

No air leaks plus chin curtain works well, only thing is rain gets on the inside if you have the visor open in heavy rain at lights etc the avg never had this problem..

Have you tried adjusting the visor fittings?

My old lid had the air coming in from the chin and circulating round into my eyes. New lid with chin curtain has cured that

Never had old or new lids (of decent makes, ie Shoei etc) do that - unless I had the little catch up which is made to do exactly that.

Yes have a chin curtain, which my bluetooth headphones attach to. New lid must have, or be easily modified to fit chin curtain and nose air deflector (the main reason I dont wear the almost new S600, it came with neither of these and the S900 parts dont fit).S900 has an always on air flow for demisting. Its not blocked by the chin toggle vent, so this may be part of it. I usually wash visor with water from hot tap, perhaps too hot some times, might have allowed visor to bend out of shape slighly.

Any suggestions for a decent, similarly shaped lid?

Yes, Im happy with £125-150 ish which will buy a S900 new

Although both the S600/900 I paid 50 quid each, used but perfect condition lids when I got them. The AGV S4 was £220 new.

AGV K3 SV?.. £149 for a plain black or non graphics version.

I have one and used as my regular helmet for commutes for several months only issues I've had with it was a slipping pinlock (adjustable screws) and a snapped baseplate (replaced under warrenty) beside the issues my niggles are that the sun visor is really stiff and that the pinlock isn't the max vision instead a small insert in the middle of the visor.

I've since owned a HJC RPHA ST (returned) and a Shark Skwal (currently getting used to) and so it doesn't seem like the best thing since slice bread anymore but is a really good helmet for the price point. Has a non removable chin guard and a nose air deflector (again not the best in the world but a good enough job, non removable I think).

Or..

HJC IS-17.

Never owned or used on the road just tried on in the shop as sadly didn't fit me, not overly impressive but comes with a max vision pinlock.. beyond that I can only say try them both on.

Can't say I'd recommend HJC after the issues I had with the RPHA ST but there's plenty of happy owners of HJC lids so it's each to their own.

I wont be using pinlock. My S900 visor has the pins, but I've never had issues of misting in this lid. I'd prefer visor without the pins but doesnt matter much.

AGV's fit but I will not be buying another, mine was not well made, visor mechanism was rubbish, sunvisor got permanently stuck and was unusable, P&H insisted it would need to be sent away, and would likely come back unfixed and I wouldnt have a lid for two months Mad

Quite happy when I crashed it and had a good excuse to buy something else..

Tried box/hjc and other cheap ones, did not like.

You need to try helmets for fit and to see the qualityof the insulation.

For £80 I just bought Givi Sniper 50.4 and you will not beleive how good quality is it. The insualtion is very good and thick. Definitely my favourite winter helmet. Has integrated sun visor which for low winter sun is a must for me. Its pinlock ready. The visor seal is great, although I never had the issue you've mention in any of my helmets. I use foggy mask and it fits nice there too. Not all helmets are foggy mask friendly. For example my X-lite is not.
