There seems to be something of a constitutional crisis in Portugal.

The President is refusing to allow a coalition to form a government.
The parties involved are anti austerity and, apparently a threat to the country.

Line Crossed

Somewhat reminiscent of the Irish vote, vote and vote again until you get it right!

It makes you wonder whether pressure has been brought to bear by the EU overlords, in an attempt to trump democracy and keep the EU solution on track!

No matter what your political colours this is cannot be good, at all.
Maybe we'll see the royal perogative being used here?
Strangely, not being, widely, reported at the moment!

When you've also got the Davo bacon fondler here allowing the Chinese heavies to freely intimidate his own populace on British streets to deal with protestors, it's all looking a bit buggered

Eh. The United States of Europe isn't remotely democratic and never has been. Continuing the pretence at a sub-State level is increasingly farcical.

Also, one-mong-one-vote universal suffrage is over-rated. Weighting votes by the amount of taxes paid would result in far fairer representation. Under that system the sponging Portugese povs who voted for jam-today - and someone else can pay for it tomorrow - wouldn't have got a look in.

Congratulations to Silva for keeping the grown ups in charge and putting the borrow-and-bribe Trots in their place.

Democracy just means "rule by the most".

Leaving aside the argument as to whether our voting system is truly democratic for a second....

Since when was "the most" good enough qualification for governance?

1928.

The pages of Hansard are replete with warnings that creating professional politicians and granting universal suffrage would create a class of lying swindling demagogues bribing and pandering to the base, common and popular.

I can't see that they were far wrong.

Democracy is just a game of charades to fool the mass of the populace that they have some sort of say as to which hole the corporate oligarchic cock gets shoved in, and usually the flavour of the lube. Strawberry or Blueberry? You're still getting fucked either way.

As much as I don't want to agree, this is pretty accurate.
