Afternoon chaps,

My old hand me down galaxy S2 has kicked it and in need of replacement.

I bought my wife a moto g2 last year, will probably get one for myself unless anybody here can suggest a better alternative?

I don't really do anything interesting on it, so not looking to spend much, around £100-130 for a sim free would be ideal. Prefer android, although would be open to windows. A decent battery life and preferably replaceable battery would be good as I tend to keep phones until they break.

Any suggestions?

Cheers

Donny

I have a Windows 630 as a work phone and was chuffed to bits with it good battery, good UI, easy to use. Stock it is better OS than Android I think.

I think you can get them for ~£70 now. There is probably a newer model out too.

It has a replaceable battery too.

I keep finding myself looking at windows phones. Now that I have a tablet thanks to work, I don't need my phone to be quite as capable, and my S3 is starting to show its age a bit. Are they much cop?

I haven't used it heavily but it does everything I needed it to and was easy to use. Micro SD card, removable battery. I could Call/Text/Email/Remote Desktop/Spotify/Stream from server with no issues.

I haven't looked into modding them I don't know if you can root/jailbreak whatever but out of the box it was much better to use than either of the android devices I have.

If anyone I know asks what cheap phone I always recommend them. Bang for buck is great. I think you can update them to Windows 10 now too. I haven't done mine though.

They're let down by their keyboard, which isn't as good as the apple/android versions. They're unbeatable on the bang for buck front though. Not much storage on board, but a microsd slot makes that easy to fix.

I brought a Galaxy Ace 4 from a local phone shop for £100, then went and got an EE sim, only to find that you could buy the same phone, for £70.

It has as faster processor then the iPhone 4S other then that it's pretty much the same spec.

Edit, only issue I have with the phone is that it can't be rooted, it's bottom of the food line for the gen of phone. Not many people seemed to take much interest in it in the rooting community.

Good camera too.

I'm really tempted by the Storm but I've only had my LG G3 six months so can't really justify it.

Have a look on Banggood or similar Chinese tat peddler websites.

The prices are "keen" to say the least, apparently they are reliable too but i admit i havnt risked any of my own hard earn't on anything yet.
My LG G2 does everything i want.

the Huawei ascend y550 4g is a great phone I have had mine since January, the screen is only 854x80 but it is 4.5" big they have a snapdragon 1.2Ghz quad core so can even play 3d games if you are that way inclined.

People slate it for the screen res but are you really going to be watching full hd on your phone? and the fewer pixels to render helps the battery last rather than rushing to find a charging point like Iphone and the like (which don't have that many more pixels anyway).

the price is also fantastic, you can pick them up for sub £50 brand new (mine was just £35) with a two or three year warranty, replacement digitisers are only £6 from uk sellers and whole digitiser and lcd /bezel assembly for sub £15.

The custom kitkat 4.4.4 (e.m.u.i) is very apple like with no app draw but you can organise your apps into folders and have widgets too.

The bootloader can be unlocked using an online request form to Huawei, there are custom roms available too even lollipop ones.

For that price range, I would try and pick up a more expensive 2nd hand model on eBay.

I've just done the bangood thing for the first time and they came good with the phone and accessories. I bought a ulefone betouch2 for £120

Octacore 1.7gHz Cpu
5.5inch 1920x1080 display
Fingerprint scanner that actually works
3gig of ram
16gig built-in memory with 32gig sd card
13mp rear camera which is pretty darn good tbh
5mp front camera with front flash!
2sim cards which is new for me but with 3 for data and general use and Vodafone for black spots is handy as I get 1at home and the other at work!!
Fairly stock android 5.0 (says 5.1)
Battery says 3050mah
For the £120 it cost delivered vs the performance I can say I'm going to struggle to justify spending 4 times as much for the usual UK flagship phones if it lasts
