After having my dash/cluster's casing replaced a week ago due to the glass being cracked, it turns out one of the connections has corroded because moisture got in. Can't set the trip meter or clock as a result.

They're going to replace the entire unit under warranty some time next week but they've told me they cannot change the mileage on the new cluster meaning it will display 0 miles again.

This is a PITA because I'll have to get used to adding 5000-something miles to whatever my current mileage is to figure out when my next service is due, and when selling time comes around it's going to be irritating explaining why the mileage is actually 5000-odd more than it displays. Don't fancy lying about it being a lower mileage bike than it is, either.

Is it possible to change the mileage to add my old mileage to new cluster or should I just leave it as it is?

It's digital.

Leave it as it is, photograph/document the change.

Provide old clocks to new owner as proof

Of course it is possible, how do you think the dealers of used motorcycles earn their livings? Smile

But, do as Phil says. Thumbs Up

With most car ones you get 1 go at setting the mileage when fitting a brand new clock. But yea I would think it would be easy enough to find someone who can adjust it for you.

Just remember +5k miles, that isn't hard.

When the clocks are replaced under warranty, you'll get an invoice which will show that the old clocks were replaced and that will show potential buyers it's legit. Also, you could ask the dealer to write the mileage that was present on the bike prior to replacement on the invoice. You will also have MOTs (or is it new?)

Photos and receipts would put my mind at rest as a buyer.

Write "+5K" on the clock in laundry pen. Why not?

The dealer should provide you with all the correct paperwork for this. We bought a car once that had its dash replaced as a recall issue (I think). The paperwork was all there explain the work done, and the original and new mileages recorded.

Remembering +5k isn't too hard. Or alternative, just write down on a piece of paper all of the service mileages -5k. Or if you're dead worried about services being done exactly on time, get the full service done now and then you're starting from 0 again!

Most speedos on bikes made in this millennium are electronic. Attaching a drill to that cable will break it. Wink
