Been stung/bitten by this thing, tried to grab it to get it out the bedroom thinking it was a daddy long legs.

Not a wasp!

Could be mosquito looking at google images.

Was quite a sting but is ok now.

It landed on the missus who happened to be holding a glass of red which found its way mostly over me as she vanished from the room.

Will think twice about catching things like that again. Good old rolled up paper did it. Did not have fire to hand.

If it was a mozzie I'm surprised you felt it actually puncture you. They are usually kind enough to impart an anaesthetic and anti-coagulant to make sure you don't disturb them while they suck up your tasty blood.
