Hi I am new to the BCF Very Happy
I have a problem with my bike when I am rolling along in a gear say 2nd for example when I accelerate I will hear a CLUNK sound like half a second after I twist the throttle, I have checked the chain and it all looks good so I have ruled out the chain being the problem.
Dose anyone have an idea what this could be? thanks for any answers. Very Happy

What bike is it?

Despite your checking the chain it sounds final drive related. If you're absolutely certain the chain isn't slack, the sprockets aren't worn and the chain hasn't got any dry/tight links then check the cush rubbers in the rear hub for aging and perishing. Once they start to collapse the rear wheel will knock as it catches up with the rotation of the sprocket.

Also, be sure the noise isn't coming from the front. The forks will lift a fair bit going from idle to wide open throttle, even on a little bike.

Really, it'd help to know what the bike is.

In what way did you check it? How much slack is there in it at the midpoint; can you lift it away from the back of the rear sprocket; have you checked for tight spots.

Grab the rear sprocket and try to turn it. If you can turn the sprocket without the wheel turning, that's your cush drive rubbers gone.

Have a look at the front sprocket as well, see if it's secure. Doubly so if a professional replaced your sprockets.

Do you mean you can pull the chain away from the sprocket, directly off the back, by 3mm?

Looks like he means free play in the cush drive rubbers.

You can either replace the rubbers or pack them out with pieces of bicycle inner tube if you're ghetto.

That's if this is the cause of the CLUNK though. Do you have a centre stand, and can you reproduce it with the bike stationary?

Yeah, you're right, I reckon.

OP, they won't be hideously expensive or impossible to replace yourself, it's tracking them down that may be the difficult part.

There are some RKS ones on eBay but I can't find anything for the RKV.

Thanks for the reply's, and yes I can reproduce the sound when the bike is on the centre stand so it looks like I need some new rubbers witch is going to be a nightmare as it took around 2 months to order a side panel for it. makes me want to buy a jap bike the amount of problems I have with it like It also has a small oil leek so I need to get a new o ring.

Phoned up any local dealers, there's a kawasaki dealership near me that stocks them (keeway bikes that is).. might be worth a look around if you haven't before.

I'd go with packing them out while you try and source new ones. Again though, do be sure that's the problem. Can you get the clunk by pulling on the chain, forwards and backwards to simulate coming on and off the power?

If a bike managed to knacker a set of cush drive rubbers in 6k miles and less than 5 years, I would be packing them out with inner tube rather than buying identical replacements. Inner tube will be made of better rubber.
