Xbox One - Worth it? + Noob Questions

Hi lads,

So I've seen a pretty good deal for an Xbox One.

I've been on the lookout quite a while - not overly fussed as I won't even have much time to play the thing, but I really fancy it for Forza and maybe the new COD at some point.

The deal is 260 quid, FIFA 16 & New Halo, 500gb.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I'll be able to flog both those games for £40 each as they are gash to me.

Meaning I'd have an XB1 for £180. That really is small change.

1. My first question is - is the 500gb one alright? I'm not going to be playing more than a few games anyway most likely.. some people telling me downloads are massive and to get a bigger one.

2. Or... you can just plug in any old external harddrive if necessary? Is this true?


3. How do you go about transferring saves, data, gamerscore etc from your Xbox 360?


4. Is it worth getting one or shall I hold out

1. 500gb should be fine for your needs. GTA V is about 50gb, for comparison.

2. Yes, they'll accept external HDDs. For game storage it'll need at least 256gb space and be USB 3.0. I've got a lesser one that's full of tv series and films permanently plugged in.

3. Gamertag, gamerscore, friends list and achievements are all stored server-side, so you'll sign into the XB1 and it'll download as normal. Game saves? For what games exactly? None are backwards compatible (yet)

4. Up to you. Looks like you've found a good deal. I very nearly converted to Ps4, part of me still thinks I should have done. Depends what your friends are on I suppose.

It's just a case of signing in on the new console and letting it work it's magic? That sounds far too good to be true.

I didn't realise games aren't back compatible either.. shows how much I've looked into this! I see they are bringing some back.

What makes you think you should have converted to PS4?

I've been sold to xbox since the 360, and most mates on it. Can't bear the layout of the PS controllers either - how do you find the XB1 controller - it looks different haha.

Backwards compatibility goes live Nov 12th with a finite list of games which they say will grow, also devs are starting to give away older titles bought with new ones, like Fallout 3 comes free with Fallout 4 etc.

I'd stick to the XB1. No point choosing one console if all your mates are on the other one.

Minecraft on XB1 is technically a new game, but there used to be an offer on where if you had the 360 version you could download the XB1 version for the cost of a pint. Not sure about the others.

I've recently decided that the PC master race is more like PCs-have-cheaper-games-but-it-takes-hours-of-messing-around-to-get-anything-to-not-crash.
I was swaying towards the Xbone, purely because my brother owns about 90% of the currently available games, so they're free for me to 'borrow' and because it's slightly cheaper.

Ben90, why were you thinking of switching to PS4?

£180 for an Xbone, yeah why not.

The PS4 *is* technically speaking, a better gaming system, but there is only enough in it for the tech-heads to really care/argue about to be honest. Most of the really important internals of the XBone/PS4 are the same, and basically both are more or less a rebranded laptop these days anyway...

(I could go into details, but it depends how much you care about how memory is laid out in a computer... , but basically the processor and graphics card are quite similar to ones you can get for laptops. )

Wonder if my Turtlebeach x11 will plug into XB1.

Ahhh, decisions. Was thinking even if I got it and left it in the box for now I can't see not being able to sell it on again for £250. It's a good deal!

I need to buy a new laptop (still ) and do my room out.. decisions!!

That's that decision made for me then. Early bird catches the worm and that. Probably for the better as I'd only get addicted to COD and beating my mates times on Forza monging out till 3AM on zombies.

My xbox one came with Gears of War and i had the same idea about selling the game straight on. Didn't know until i opened it up that it was just a download code and there was no disc so bare that in mind

I like the idea of a console for ease of use. No faff, no need to update your graphics drivers or check if you rig can run it, just plug and play.

Saying that, I have always been a PC gamer and had high end rigs. Even though I don't game much (hardly) these days, I'd still rather be on a PC than console.

Not to mention free single player games - Any game you want can be cracked but you generally need to buy them if you want to play MP online.

This weekend I've been ploughing through Abes Oddessy New n Tasty, a remake of the original in HD.... so much nostalgia.
