Howdy, Hoping some of you could help shed some light here.

My varadero can be very hard to find neutral after I've been riding. it just jumps from 1st to 2nd. Rolling the motorbike back and forth can sometimes manipulate it into gear however if I turn the ignition off it goes into neutral without hesitation.

Asked the garage to have a look at it when I had it in getting some work done and they suggested an 'engine flush'

clearly no idea what I was on about.

Gets a bit annoying always have to be in 1st gear at traffic lights etc, I've learned to live with it and I tend to knock it into neutral when i'm doing 5mph and slowing to a stop. But i'm looking to fix it before I sell the bike to get my bigger one.

Many thanks for any help! Embarassed

How much play have you got at the handlebar lever (at the ball end of the lever I mean)?

Check clutch lever free play as above.

Buy oil filter and appropriate oil for your bike, motul 5000 or 5100 is not expensive and plenty good enough. Alternatively shell ax7 or yamalube. Whatever you can get for sensible monies. Buy bottle of motul engine flush. You may need to resort to ebay.

Go for ride. As soon as you get back put engine flush in and start bike again, leave running whilst you de-kit and get oil change equipment and tools. Turn bike off after it has been running for the time it says on the bottle of engine flush. Drain oil, change filter, put fresh oil in. Dispose of old oil. Try not to burn self.

Check your clutch adjustment before you resort to anything more complicated. It sounds as if it may be dragging slightly. Thumbs Up

Check your chain and check your adjustment. Oil is no issue, cheapest Morrisons or tescos 10w40

as above,

if the chain is a bit slack or a bit tight it can be tricky to get into neutral.

when was the oil last changed? this could be affecting slightly, but chain tension is the first thing I'd check.

Importantly why did the garage say to do a flush? Do you have black goop instead of oil in there?
