Was thinking the other day about getting a pinlock because my helmet has been fogging up a lot recently due to the weather, etc?

Then I had a thought: do any helmets come with a similar technology as the heated windscreen (and rear windows) in cars?

Not sure if this is viable or has been tried before due to costs and needing some sort of power source as well. Some Fords have very fine lines on their front windscreens which you don't actually see unless you are looking for them and are not distracting - not like the thick ones on the rear window.

Then I also got thinking about heating the helmet slightly similar to heated gloves, this might also keep the visor clear as well as keeping your head nice and cozy. Thinking

Yes they do for snow mobiles and in 2010:

Or you could fit one from here:

Or buy a complete helmet from the yanks (snowmobile)

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Scorpion-EXO-900-Electric-Snowmobile-Helmet-Matte-Black-LG-/141804299404?hash=item210431e48c

Or make your own:

I have an antifog set of goggles which I use for airsoft. It's just a set of ballistic goggles with some of the foam cut out and two fans put in to vent the inside.

So you want to take a problem that has already been solved and solve it again but with much greater expense and inconvenience? Thinking

Just buy a pinlock. A heated windscreen is used for the first two minutes after you get in the car to clear off last night's ice or condensation. Helmets have the inherent benefit of being able to stay indoors overnight. Thumbs Up

And a major inherent problem when outside (where they are used) that they are only a couple of M/M thick plastic and have very moist air blown at one side and very cold air to the other....

Of which we know the result.

Also a pinlock does not stop a visor from icing up.

Well that's just shit. Thought you were all going to say "Great idea Gazz" and then the next step would be a pitch in front of the dragons.

I've often wondered about some kind of miniature awning between the top of the visor and the helmet so that you could open the visor a notch to clear the mist away without letting rainwater run down the inside. Sounds naff but if this was a problem the racers have we'd all be wearing the solution by now. I suppose they're always going fast enough to keep the vents working and the visor mist-free.

My lid has got top vent and bottom vent. If that's not enough, temps below 5°C, I just leave the shield a bit opened, just a small tiny gap. Which is enough for all the moisture to vent out. Thumbs Up

I'm in the process of making a home-made heated visor for my Shoei GT-Air at the moment. It's not that hard to do, but that said I've been "in the process" for at least a year now!

I do have a pinlock, but it doesn't work. Googling seems to suggest that a lot of people with that particular helmet have problems with fogging in the cold or wet, despite the pinlock being there.

Steve.
