I have about a dozen or so of them, from woolly tubes to thin spandex type ones. The main use is to stop the draft down my neck and to prevent water/rain from getting in too much. I do usually wear the thin ones all year round with the thicker ones being used on longer rides or very cold weather.

If you can find a BMW Motoretarrd shop they sell a pretty one.
It's Black Fabric on the outside and has a soft 'microfiber' lining for comfort.

It keeps shit and water out very well. I've been using mine for about 15mths no hassle.

Knox Cold Killers Mini Tube. Mine is still in good condition
after three years of use. £15-20 if you shop around.

I use one of the many freebie oxford jobbies I have for windproofing and I grow a bushy winter beard every year for insulation.

They work well together.

I like Buff Originals although they're a bit pricey for what they are. I hate tight collars so I don't like anything thicker, even fleece, but the Buffs do the job of stopping draughts. The bike magazines used to have the occasional freebie neck tube so look out for those.

No gaps, no drafts, nicely elasticated to hold itself in place over or under your nose or mouth, lovely.

I use one of these. It's warm and comfortable and cheaper than the polar buffs

If you go for the spandexy type, Oxford ones, they are often available in TKMaxx at 3 for £5 or less. That stacks up well when you consider bike shops sell them for that price each.

Used to ride with one all the time. Appear to have lost about 6 of the damn things in 4 years. I suspect the kids steal them for use as headbands at dance as borrowing something of mine is easier than looking. Mostly buy cheap. Einter jacket has zip off storm flap thing that works pretty well at keeping me dry so long as i keep my hair out of the velco.
