For whom don't know that.. I just saw it during the first visit in a shop to decide which helmet to pick..

This mounted on a GT Veloce, seems a pretty good combination. |

Thought they were about £150.
A normal visor is £30, sunglasses are even less if you're tight. It'll go flat as well.
Not really bothered about it personally. ____________________ My Flickr |

I'd like the idea of a visor in the uk, with the sun going on and off so often. I don't like internal because, in my opinion, they compromise safety. So I have two options: Arai external sun visor, or this one. Also in the case I enter in a gallery it proves his utility.. I like the idea of having a dark visor whenever I need it |

I've also read that Arai won't do an internal visor because it compromises on safety. Seems logical to me. I don't see how you can fit an internal visor without either reducing the depth of the padding, or making the shell bigger, which increases the pendulum effect on the neck. Note that Schuberth, who invented the internal visor over 30 years ago, do not put an internal visor in the SR1, their safest helmet. ____________________ Current bike: K1100RS. Varish, I wouldn't get too hung up about whether a helmet has 4 or 5 star ratings. The stats say that either will save you - people who wear a helmet very rarely die from a head injury. Since helmets became compulsory in the UK the biggest cause of death for bikers has been chest injury - so if you want to be really serious about your safety you need an airbag, plus lots of training to help with anticipation, emergency stops and slippery surfaces, plus ABS, the best armour on all your joints, Daytona boots to reduce foot injuries, etc. If you get a 5 star helmet and convince yourself you're safe...that could be a big mistake!
As for a tinted visor, I prefer glasses with sun-sensitive lenses because I like to ride with my visor open. I think this increases safety because you are more aware of everything. But you need an adjustable screen so you can always have your head in a pocket of still air. ____________________ Current bike: K1100RS. this make sense, thanks. I have a bunch of stuff to be protected, and since I had to change helmet I wanted a decent one, which allows me to use a visor whenever I need it. Apart from the airbag I am quite settled. |

A £30 helmet from Lidl will protect you better than a £600+ latest and greatest Arai race rep if the cheap lid from Lidl fits you better.

If AGV fits you I think the LCD visor would be great fun - so long as you don't scratch it! It's a pity that you can't buy the LCD panel separately.
If you want a good deal on Arai you can sometimes save a bit by buying from Japan. You might have to pay customs duty and VAT, you might not, it's a bit of a lottery. I'm slightly tempted by the latest RX7 which has a new shell design. In the UK it's called the RX-7V, £560 for a plain one. In Japan it's called the RX-7X, £290 with free shipping. https://www.j-mart.biz/j-parts/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=2_27_158_225_4895 ____________________ Current bike: K1100RS. I looked up the duty for importing a helmet from Japan on the HMRC site: it's 2.7%. For the RX-7 above that takes you to £297.83. Then you pay 20% VAT on the total - that takes you to £357.40. That's one hell of a saving, and it makes the RX-7 look very, very overpriced in the UK. No way will I ever pay the dealer price again! Now I want to import one just to prove that the price is for real! ____________________ Current bike: K1100RS. A cool gadget to have, but too expensive. I'm sure it will come down in price in a few years, only then I'd consider. I'll stick with my manual visor change over for £20 ____________________ Current bike - GSX-R1000 k8 |
