I have a peugeot tweet 125 (The same as the sym symphony 125). The tyres that came with it are 110/70-16 (chinese brand) front and rear. Now I know that the front tyre is suppose to be narrower and different in thread pattern and the rear should be wider. I wish to upgrade to michelins or some decent brand. Now the size I can find is 100/80-16 or 110/70-16 for the front no problem but the rear must be wider 120/80-16. There is a 37mm bigger difference in diameter for the rear tyre. Should I change them or leave the front and rear the same size?

The internet says:
Front tyre: 90/80-16 (RS: 120/60-16)
Rear tyre: 110/70-16 (RS: 130/60-16)

Also, there is no such a ''rule'' the rear tyre has to be wider than the front one. Well, the front one shouldn't be wider than the rear one, of course.

To answer your question, you can have both tyres of the same size. I used to ride 110/90-17 on both wheels on my GPz for a while (before I found out there should be a wider tyre on the back). The handling before and after was the same. By the way, it is a MOT fail if the tyre sizes don't match the paper work (not 100% sure about UK).

I am interested in the michelin cit grip tyres but the 110/70-16 size is for the front only. And the minimum size for the rear tyre for the michelin is 120/80-16 but it will be too big for the rear. Now my only option is to buy two front tyres 110/70-16 and flip the rear rotation. I know this is not the proper way but it is my only option.

Why would you flip the rotation? Confused Just buy 90/80-16 and 110/70-16 and get over it. Wider tyres won't help anything, will theoretically ruin your mpg and handling performance. If you flip the rotation, the tyre won't work in wet (won't pump water from beneath the tyre on the tar).

What are your expectation, fitting wider tyres? Thinking

You misunderstood me. I don't want wider tyres. The size 110/70-16 doesn't come for the back wheel. The tyres are made for front or rear but that size is for fronts only, Thats why I want to flip the tyre.

Be aware that an MOT place may not pass a bike with a unidirectional tyre mounted the wrong way round... if they notice.

I don't want dunlop. Michelin or pirelli is my prefered brand and maybe metzeler.

I googled again, none of those manufacturers make 110/70-16 rear tyres, which only means Dunlop or the others, I'm afraid. Smile

A Michelin City Grip can be mounted front or rear as long as the directional arrow is followed when you fit it. All City Grip tyres come with directional arrows for front or rear fitment.
