Hello hello,

As the title says I have been a bit of a tit. Twice.

Replaced the spark plugs on the 1999 hornet 600. when putting the tank back on forgot to turn it back to the "on" position on the tap. Got to it in the morning started up just fine with the fuel in the carbs. Then it cut out of course.

So I take the tank of and put petrol in the carb feed tube so it should start. While I am there, I adjusted the idle dial on the carbs, as she was idling a bit low before (I should have done this with it running, I didn't).

She now will not start and I have no idea where the idle dial should be in it's normal position as I have moved it loads trying to fix the problem.

I have also noticed that of you try the carb drain plugs, the carb for cylinder 1 (nearest the tank side) has fuel in it but the carb for 4 (furthest away from the tank feed) has no fuel in it. But I assume this will fix itself once the bike is running and a vacuum pulls the fuel through.

Long story short: How do I resent the idle dial to the current position with the bike off?

Thanks in advance.

You don't.

You get it running and warm. You then set the idle.

Do you have a "prime" setting on your tap that bypasses the vacuum? Hmm, it appears not.

Cranking the bike should pull fuel through. Have you checked that your vacuum hoses are all secure?

This. Why did you do this.

How much did you 'adjust' it? Adjust it to what?

Hence the title...

I have tried fiddling with it now to the extent that I am completely unsure of it's original position.

As there is fuel getting through to the at least some of the carbs (checked with the carb drain screw), I assume I just need to get the idle dial correct and she will fire up.

I can't do this while running as she won't currently start.

Rogerborg, I do not have a prime, only on, off and reserve.

I do have a bar across all the carbs which pulls back and forth, I assume this is to pull fuel into the carbs but as I said before I think that the current problem is the idle speed dial.

I haven't checked the vacuum hoses actually, may be a good idea.
