Let me start off by saying I'm helping a friend build a bike he took apart about a year ago that has since been sitting in his closet. He claims it started an ran prior to taking it apart.

Previous situation: turn key and no part of the bike got power (battery good). The starter relay had some scorching and melting at the fuse connection, as well as one of the ignition fuses were blown. Both were replace BUT...

Situation after new starter relay: Bike gets power, neutral light indicator turns on. Simply the bike wont even try to turn over. Tested the starter motor by itself and it is fine. The new relay clicks and works.

The only two things I could fathom are the diode going bad (is that possible?) and there's a second "starter circuit relay" I found on the wiring diagram. Is there a good chance that one of those went Chernobyl when the main relay fried as well?

Whatever you do
Do NOT tell us what bike it is OK?
The boys and girls here love a puzzle to help them develop their psychic powers
and 'my bike dont go' type posts are just thing to get the little rascals scratching their heads and ruminating all over the place.

We have a winner.

2001 Kawasaki Eliminator BN125.

I apologize, I was so flustered I left out the "small" details.

it is just a matter of going over it with a multimeter. are you getting power to the relay, are you getting power out of the relay? Are you getting power to the solenoid (I guess this will be part of the starter) and power out? Have you hit the starter with voltage from a decent car battery with a jump lead, did it kick? Check fuses, check connections, I believe the bike has a neutral switch is this killing the circuit? Does it have a sidestand switch that is doing the same? make sure that these are ok and if not hot wire them.

Usual questions:

1. Does the starter relay click when you press the starter button.

2. Does the engine turn over when you bridge the starter relay contacts with a screwdriver. Use an insulated screwdriver, many sparks.

3. Is the battery healthy - preferably new and recently charged.

If the answers to these questions are yes, yes and yes then the problem is most likely with the starter relay.

When I apply 12v power to the relay connection as shown in the picture, the relay clicks. When I hook everything back up and press the ignition, nothing.

I also tested the right handlebar controls for continuity and the run/kill was a complete circuit, but the starter switch was open with no current.

some bikes you have to pull the clutch in when starting, could it be something as simple as a faulty switch or you haven't connected this fail safe circuit back up?( side stand/in gear/clutch switches)

Is there continuity when you have the multimeter set up as above and press the starter button?
