https://goo.gl/photos/ijtp6FV4arBBTfb18https://goo.gl/photos/ijtp6FV4arBBTfb18I started out to change my front pads yesterday, but couldn't get the pad retaining pin out because the allen head on it was knackered. I've spent most of the day trying various ways to get it out, including bolt extractors, cutting a slot in it to use a screwdriver, turning it with pliers and drilling it out. In the process I've cut most of it off, so I'm now left with just the threaded part, about 10mm of it, buried inside the caliper (see photos).

Without getting it out, I can't put a new one in, which means I've no way of fixing pads into the caliper. I'm looking at £400 for a new caliper. Can anyone offer any ideas for getting it out, or recommend anywhere in Bristol that might be able to drill it out and put a new thread in if I took the caliper to them?

Thanks,

Steve.

You could give Colin at C&B a try.......

I think it's fair to say that you've mangled that a bit though....don't expect him to look too excited about that job Neutral

Or, how's about..........https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?geo_id=32251&MT_ID=12&crlp=78298696380_847&rlsatarget=kwd-535199383&keyword=front+caliper&ul_ref=http%253A%252F%252Frover.ebay.com%252Frover%252F1%252F710-35649-5910-0%252F2%253Fmpre%253Dhttp%25253A%25252F%25252Fwww.ebay.co.uk%25252Fulk%25252Fsch%25252F%25253F_nkw%25253Dfront%25252520caliper%2526keyword%253Dfront%252520caliper%2526crlp%253D78298696380_847%2526MT_ID%253D12%2526geo_id%253D32251%2526rlsatarget%253Dkwd-535199383%2526adpos%253D1t1%2526device%253Dt%2526loc%253D9045640%2526poi%253D1006567%2526treatment_id%253D7%2526srcrot%253D710-35649-5910-0%2526rvr_id%253D929999197991&clk_rvr_id=929999197991&treatment_id=7&_odkw=front+caliper&poi=1006567&adpos=1t1&ul_noapp=true&device=t&crdt=0&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=triumph+sprint+front+caliper&_sacat=0

mine were like that on a CB350S I bought to rebuild

I tapped a small chisel into the middle of the remaining threaded bit and then twisted the chisel with some mole grips and they came out Thumbs Up

I'd be drilling it all the way through. At some point, it'll break loose and unscrew. often does so as the drill "bites" on the last couple of mm.

I'm not sure how you'll get on centring it though. With it being that mangled and what looks like an off-centre pilot hole. I'd probably go right in there with a 4 or 4.5mm bit if you are confident you can get it right down the middle. Just do it slowly this time, with lots of lube and coolant on the bit!

If you get the hole all the way through, it'll likely unscrew itself anyway or you may be able to collapse the remains into the centre of the hole then run a tap along it to clean the threads up.
