Crossposted in The South East regional forum, but...

Why no Greater London User Group?

The "south east", including London, is a big place - over a quarter of the UK's population.

Half of all people in the 19,000km² area of the "south east" actually live in the 1,500km² called "London" Laughing

Wales is about 5% of the UK's population, yet has its own group. London three times the population of Wales!

Just saying... personally, I'd find a "Greater London" group a lot more useful than the "South East" group.

Surely that's just the SE section?

If you want to meet up in a certain area of the SE just post it up, those nearby or not that want to go will do it.

I tend to avoid posting threads about particular road works or big Police stop checks* or whatever in the SE section, just because it's irrelevant to such a vast area.

Also questions about London dealerships or whatever, same deal, SE is huge, its irrelevant to masses of people.

*Obviously I'd never actually do this, officer Shifty

The South East is the smallest "part" of the UK in terms of area.

Scotland = 77,900
The North = 37,300
Midlands = 28,600
South West = 23,800
Wales = 20,700
South East = 19,000

Population, fair enough but huge it isn't.

Rated redundant Thumbs Down

A forum serves users, not square kilometers. That was my point!

Region | Region Population as % of UK Population
South East | 13.7%
Greater London | 13.1%
North West | 11.1%
East | 9.3%
West Midlands | 8.9%
South West | 8.4%
Yorkshire and the Humber | 8.3%
Scotland | 8.3%
East Midlands | 7.2%
Wales | 4.8%
North East | 4.1%
Northern Ireland | 2.9%

I live in Hertfordshire - but within the M25 - and ride into Central London everyday.

Would I be eligible?

I'd also imagine that due to congestion charging and extortionate public transport costs that there is also a higher proportion of riders per capita compared to the rest of the UK.

Based on pure supposition - actual numbers may vary.

Hand

BCF wins because it doesn't have a thousand and one separate forums.

No arguing there - but I'd suggest that there are sections that get far less use than the proposed London section would, which could more or less disappear without anybody noticing, thereby keeping our simple uncluttered forum.

The Ireland section has had less than 200 topics in its existence. We probably have more active users from the USA than Ireland Laughing

It would make BCF less simple and more cluttered. Something London related might go in general bike chat, the SE forum or a new Greater London forum.

The SE forum isn't overrun with Greater London threads. Regardless of whatever statistics you come up with comparing populations, land area of the regional groups, the number of BCF users in those areas and the number of threads those users post, there's just no need for a seperate Greater London regional forum.

Interesting fact:

Scotland 11,073 topics
The South East 2,345 topics

Borg effect?

Does BCF really need 'provisional wings' ?.
