So I have a domain registered at nsnoc.com

It's up for renewal yesterday so I try to renew it and get a OMFG DATABAIS BORKEN error from their site.

However, I do still get an invoice for it, so like a chump I paid that via PayPal in the hope that would clear it.

Nope. Domain is still showing as expired. When I click through renewals again, I get another invoice. Rolling Eyes

I try to open a support ticket: OMFG DATABAIS BORKEN. Brick Wall But wait, it did actually open the ticket. Except it opened it 40 minutes in the past. Yes, a domain registrar / host has a system clock set 40 minutes slow. And I've just realised that www.nsnoc.com doesn't even go anywhere, only https://support.nsnoc.com/ Pale

What do?

I need this domain - or more particularly email forwarding - back up ASAP.

I don't mind paying elsewhere and then reclaiming the nsnoc invoice through PayPal.

However, can I transfer it when it's set to expired?

Any recommendations?

righto.

nsnoc.com is owned by netserve.co.uk

Your domain will be held for a month I think, before it is given to someone else if it is on backorder.

I think I might have done lost my domain.

Right, I need to bail out from these chumps either way. Any recommendations for a registrar?

I'm not sure I understand exactly but you mentioned email forwarding and I own a couple of wildlife camera traps/ garage security cameras (Ltl Acorn 6310 models here https://www.wildlifeservices.co.uk/acorntrailcams.html) which send a photo via email. https://www.smtp2go.com/ was recommended. No idea if it's good value but it works, and any missed images are due to the camera's/ sim card provider's limitations. (The camera will only make one attempt to send and if the signal is weak or busy you get nothing.)

I would be tempted to try the phone number in the whois data, linked above, between office hours.

Yup, thanks, I'll be on to them tomorrow. Well, them or a Chinese takeaway or a betting shop, whoever picks up.

Thanks for the recommendation. All I use the domain in question for is to forward *@the.domain to an_account@gmail.com, so I'm not after anything fancy.

There's a very simple step to re-acquiring a domain name if you lose it like this or due to old email addresses not existing, etc.

https://www.nominet.uk/ - They oversee UK domain names only though. As long as the address on the domain is registered somewhere you have access too, you can supply a utility bill, etc and pay a £25 fee to get it back.

Spooky prediction, "24x7 technical support" is how long it'll take to get a reply, which will be "i hav rais u nuther invoise 4 2 pay".

As always, I look forward to being pleasantly surprised.
