...actually I do mean this and the BCF's critique is extremely useful! To anyone who doesn't know what happened, I put a teaser trailer on here for a motorcycle documentary and it was shit. The BCF massif told me it was shit (you were right) so it was reworked and here is the new version which is much better.
What I like about this place is generally, everyone will say what they think. Friends just tend to say 'it's fine' when they actually mean it's a piece of cr@p but they don't want to offend me (actually very difficult to offend me but the world is too polite).
On here, I had 'real' feedback by people unafraid of pulling punches meaning I had something to work from.
Anyhow, here is the dinky little teaser trailer about a different aspect of motorcycling. The full trailer should be ready in a month (this is literally just a tiny little something to start off with) and if a distributor actually gives us any money for it, I will happily send the BCF BBQ some crates of beer as a thank you.
If anyone wants to see what I'm talking about, the preliminary teaser trailer is here:

At least you get to see more video in this one, the last one over used glitch/bad tv too much. |
Absolutely agree with the glitchiness. There were lots of horror fans who loved it but back in the real world away from the zombie crowd, it was rubbish.
The upbeat track is new. The original was a bit more 'punk' which is my taste but it just didn't work. ____________________ FZR400 (blown engine), ZXR750 (blown engine), ZX6R (accident), CBR600 which had engine issues after which I learned to change gear..., CBR900, CBR924 (stolen), CB600, CB1300 (everything blew up), BMW K1300GT (written off, hit from rear while stationary), Bandit 1250 for a couple of months, Triumph Sprint ST 1050 (nicked) and somewhere in there, I wrote off a Ducati 748 at Cadwell. |

Not shit!
However, I would note that "A young mother with the courage to risk everything for her dream" looks like Mumsnet trollbait. Even to a reasonable person it might appear selfish without more context. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Looks very promising. Seems an original subject for a documentary, which is rare these days. Everything's been done, but I don't think this has.
Doesn't seem like Mumsnet trollbait to me...seems more like an open and honest presentation of something of general interest to anyone.
I do have 2 quibbles though - I don't like the title at all. And I suspect the teaser tells the whole story, so watching the entire doc will be repetitive and dull, as are most docs these days - i.e. they're dumbed down and padded out with lots of repetitions. The story appears to be "woman feels trapped in wheelchair, has a go at motorcycling and succeeds". Where's the tension about the outcome? We already know she succeeds because we've seen her on the track. The only things I now want to know are how the controls were adapted for her and how she was able to hold the bike at a standstill. But I suspect that the general non-motorcycling audience won't be interested in the controls. And I have a feeling she can't hold the bike at a standstill. So finding out the whole story may be a let down because she has to have lots of help getting on and off, she can't hold the bike at a standstill, so she can't ride on the road, biking is only something she can do once in a blue moon on an empty track with legions of helpers...so she is still trapped. ____________________ Current bike: K1100RS. That's interesting and the kind of stuff we need to think about for the 'main' trailer as this is just a dinky little 'teaser.'
We can't show too much in a minute 20 so just gave a little 'taste' of what is happening. There are plenty of surprises (we think), other characters, a story which goes further, lots of emotional ups-and-downs etc...
Must get more cleavage in, though... |

I liked that, I almost feel like the trailer should end with her pulling a visor down and none of her actually riding. For the whole cliffhanger effect.
I'm really not a film person though and have zero creative talent in that area, probably best ignored ____________________ I am a bellend, I am a man of constant sorrow, I am a gummy bear, I am a rock. |

However top marks for attitude. As far as money, had you considered crowd funding? It's still an 'in' thing to do, I believe and you can get some tugs at heart strings. Will want that better trailer first, of course. |
Lots of easier ways for her to get around than on a bike! But if it would be easy, it wouldn't be fun.
And she has a great attitude. When she was paralysed, she was in a dark place but just put two fingers up at it and said 'fuck it.' She was told she shouldn't do this or that and ultimately, she just went out to live her life as she wanted to.
As for crowdfunding, unsure about that. I have a camera, point it in the general direction of the action and hit the big, red button and as a documentary, there aren't really costs. Frankly, when I see there are documentaries being crowdfunded I just think it's someone out to get a bit of cash as the only real costs are travel and post-production.
However, post-production is only really a cost if a TV channel would be crazy enough to play it and in that case, we'd ask the TV channel for money. If someone else knows more about it, I'm all ears as I don't know much. |

As far as most of the 'challenges' involved in bikes for her riding on track go, I don't have any of them. I can get on and off the bike at will. I can stop the bike anywhere I want easily. When I've crashed (bar the time I mashed myself up along with snapping my leg), I've always got up and if safe to do so, I've got the bike up myself.
Yet despite all that, I still found riding on track 'fun'!
And for the same reasons I'm sure I'd enjoy driving on track.
So in the same situation I'm pretty sure I'd prefer to get my fun from the track experience, rather than from struggling with other items.
Fair enough if you don't have any particularly high costs, makes more sense - It does irk me the people that fairly needlesly get money out of such situations. However, while it IS a lot of work, one of the big reasons people use crowdfunding is publicity - it gets lots of people actively talking about and gives them an incentive to get a bit of viral social media marketing going.
From what I know with some minor involvements in such things, I'd expect a TV channel would want a "ready to go" product plonked in their laps to decide and I wouldn't expect a massive amount of cash - something like motors TV maybe? (All the national minibikes race series are broadcast on there - not sure if they even pay for that, if they do, can't see it being much.)
Oh and despite my negativity on the subject matter, if you want some drone footage and happen to be in a convenient place for me, might be able to help out . On that, I'd definitely try and get creative with the angles, slo mo etc - seems to be one of the big reasons top gear did so well was excellent cinematography. |
