not long after buying my scooter i started having problems with the electric start, narrowed it down to the bearings on the bendix being knackered.

I purchased this one to replace the faulty one (external link) - https://www.adrenalin-pedstop.co.uk/p-Gilera_Runner_50_starter_motor_gear_bendix_fits_NRG_Power_etc_-6510.aspx

I fitted the new gear but when i put the case back on and i tried the electric start all i got was a single click and no movement of the gear.
took the case back off and made sure it was in the correct position and tried the electric start with the case still off and it worked just fine so i put the outer case back on and got the same issue.

any one have any idea what could be causing the issue?

thanks in advance.

Fooked Battery/bad cable connections?

Bendix gears can be clockwise or anti clockwise depending on application. Are you certain the new gear has the same lead/chamfer as the original?

If the Bendix rotates in/out to match the side way the engine is configured then it will stall when the solenoid is engaged.

the battery is fine as its under 3 months old and the starter motor still engages when the electric start button is pushed when bendix is removed.

the new bendix looks exactly the same and like i said in original post, it engages and starts the engine just fine when the outer engine casing is taken off

I don't know how the motor case, if that is what you mean, is held together.
Normally the end covers, holding the bearings, are secured by through bolts and nuts.

In any assembly it is recommended that the bolts are tightened evenly.
Either diagonally opposite or in a circular pattern.

Gradually tighten all bolts evenly and check the armature turns.
Continue like this tight check tight check until the bolts torque is reached. (If you feel they need to be torqued.)

If it gets tight slacken off and do up the bolts in a dissimilar pattern and check again.

Charge the battery before trying to fix it any more.

A click from the solenoid usually means that the battery doesn't have enough current to spin over the engine. It will turn the starter motor with no load, but then you could probably do that with a 9V battery.

Charge the battery overnight with a proper charger, then try starting it.

ive had this same issue on two honda dio scooters,
had a fucked bendix, changed for another, from the same model dio.
boom didnt work wtf, turns out those pesky japs decided that they would change the legnth of the bendix by 1mm between the jap and the australasian market scoots (was in nz at the time)

so it was jamming on the casing and not allowing it to spin.

second time, the number of teeth had changed.
