Anyone else get sore pinky fingers when they started riding? They dont hurt any worse when actually riding, but I have stiffness and quite a lot of pain in the joints of just my pinky fingers all of the time since starting riding just over a month ago. I wonder if I'm holding the bars badly, I dont think I'm grabbing overly tight, but I have a short reach and I'm riding an er-6f, and I know I'm guilty of putting my weight through my hands at times, though I'm trying to stop that.
Any ideas?

How tight are you gloves?
How tight are your gloves when gripping the bars?

I had a pair that were fine until I gripped the bar, then the thumb bit would be really tight when gripping.
Caused a proper sore thumb after 15mins.

It could be that you're applying pressure to the levers starting with your 'outside' fingers and working inwards, if that makes sense. Try consciously starting to apply pressure with your forefinger and working outwards.

Rotate the bars or fit different ones.

Closer to you, higher, narrower, more swept back, whatever it takes.

You're a human, adapt your environment to suit you, not the other way around.

Is november and the muffs have just gone on my bike for the winter, are you getting cold? Start of a joint problem?

First few months of riding a 125 my hands were really painful to the point of destroying my guitar playing. Then i stopped gripping the bars so tight.

These days i have a row of callouses on my hands at the base of each finger but nothing is painful unless i put huge miles in.

Bar muffs and heated grips installed already. They went on about 3 weeks ago.

A further consideration:

I have drifted into braking with two fingers, i think becasue it's easier to blip on a downshift and my old 535 is a bit agricultural. I clutch with 4 fingers, or at least i thought i did. I squeeze with 3 and my pinky kind of floats over the ball end of the lever. With 3-season gloves on (goretex, xtrafit, minimal insulation, my fingers dont all fit. If i try to squeeze with all four fingers, it gets quite uncomfortable. My hand is quite flexible with well above normal finger movement isolation (much musician-fu) but i have a childhood injury that means my pinky does not lift as rapidly as my other fingers, so i tend to leave it stuck out like a poseurish tea-drinker unless it needs to be somewhere. I wonder whether a brake leaver slightly too short for the hand of somone who isnt a hypermobile freak would be uncomfortable.

Ooh! So close.

It's actually "they're inbred northern scumfucks."

Thanks for playing though.
