Sony ICF-SW100

Just been given a Sony Icf-sw100 radio haven't got a fecking clue how to use it I've downloaded the user instructions which aren't very clear, I've now managed to set the clock and tune a few fm stations how do use SW settings.
finally what the fuck is it for why would you want to tune to radio Zimbabwe or some obscure foreign radio station
