Mod 1 under the belt.........

Mod 2 next week

I'm under no illusion that it's a given, but fingers crossed. It'll happen one day.

Now the big question.

I bought a Honda cb125f which has served me well for 3 months (it will stay in the family) and I'm doing training and exams on a 2010 Yamaha xj6 which I do like. But my dream bike (other than Harley fatboy s) is a triumph thunderbird storm - but what do I get first? I read done people advise working your way up the bike tree, don't go too big at the start; others say get the bike you want and learn your art on it.

If I was much younger I'd go with the former, but I'm 43 now and I don't want to get to 50 before getting on my dream machine.

I considered a triumph America lt which I could get a decent 2nd for £4-5k, kind of halfway house, but it's definitely a cruiser I'm after.

Hi and congratulations on the mod 1 pass.

As you're knocking on death's door, I'd go straight for the bike that you want.

However, do you really want a huge cruiser? 340kg, enough torque to counter-rotate the planet, but are you going to actually use it?

I'd want to give one a good ride under the conditions that you intend to use it.

Passed my mod 2 a couple of months back. Straight onto a brand new cbr650. Still smiling and have got the hang of the extra power now. I'm 37, so not far behind you. Get the bike you want. Don't work your way up. Had I got a 250 or some old knacker if have been bored silly by now.

^^^You may of got bored of a 250 but I loved the arse off mine. It was possibly the best bike I've had for tight twisty lanes and taught me a lot.
