I'm a casual greenlaner, do about 50 miles tops at weekends. I'm in the market for a new helmet but I can't decide which to go for. At the moment I've been using a shitty Nitro £60 road/street helmet that I've had for 3 years and it's started to fall apart.

I've seen some 'dual sport' helmets, but I'm not convinced there's actually any point to them. Unless you're a pansy American 'vlogger' that sticks stupid tat like mohicans to them. What's the point of these as opposed to conventional motocross/ road helmets?

I've seen some cheap dual sport helmets here:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/THH-TX-13-Solid-Plain-Matt-Black-Dual-Sport-Helmet-DS-MX-Motocross-ATV-Motorbike-/191208876537?var=&hash=item2c84efe9f9:m:mnP7LIDkweGbmMVCgE4KgeQ

Is this likely to be a pile of shite or should I give it a chance? I've got an old MX helmet in the garage I can use so I'll buy some goggles for it if there's no point getting the DS.

I'd go for dual.

When Ewan and thingy rode around the world they wore the dual sport lids. They did seem to do the job okay, but when they rode in the dusty desert on the way south through Africa, they had problems with the dust getting up inside the lid and obscuring their vision,so had to resort to goggles. So it really depends on what sort of terrain you normally ride.

As for the lid shown in the link, there is cheap....and there is really cheap. The lid that I bought was about £100 and has lasted well Thumbs Up

Yeah, no deserts in Leicestershire (is there?), so hopefully should be ok, it's normally sloppy mud to be honest. I've decided I'll probably get the Spada Sting (more reviews). I don't really want to spend over £50 because I might not get along with it.

I wear motocross or trials.

Dual sport better weather protection.

Downside of motocross is colder face when road riding in winter, and goggles are a pain to wipe rain water from. I get cheap goggles and replace often, cos scratches.
