Hi all,

just interested to know what first comes to mind with this problem. bought 2010 CBF to clean up and sell on.
Fitted a new clutch cable as the old one was mangled when i picked the bike up. there seems to be a bit of excessive slack in the cable unless i tighten it up to its maximum. i measured it against the old mangled one and it is exactly the same length. also when i squeeze in the clutch lever it does not return.

if i manually move the clutch arm on top of the crank case it does spring back but i'm wondering if the spring is not 100% strong enough to pull the clutch lever back into place.

what do you guys think?

or maybe is it the actual clutch itself thats playing up?

thanks
zac

It should take a strong pull, like finger-mashing, to move that arm.

If it's strongly sprung there then either your clutch cable is being pinched somewhere (easy enough to do) or your lever pivot is sticking. Given that you'd have spotted the latter when fitting the cable, I'd suggest the former.

Incidentally, I hope this was a very cheap buy.

That arm should have a spring on it. Does it?

hmm, that actually is the answer i'm looking for.... it's certainly not finger smashing. ive checked all round for snags on the cable so i'm happy its not that. i think i'll whip the casing off tonight and have a look at the spring for the arm.

yes it was a bargain. there is plenty of room to give it a reall good going over and still make a few quid!

yes it does have a spring but internally not on the outside of the casing

Is it located correctly?

Are you sure you connected the cable in the correct way? you might have had the arm unloaded when the cable was connected.

Wut? It's acting against the clutch springs.

Great, sounds like a fun and rewarding project.

Where are you? I'm in the market for a 125, and I'd like to avoid this one.

Every lever I have seen has a spring on it the CBF has one inside the casing my S4 and TDm have them outside, it's to keep the mechanism together.
