Advice Needed on Bike Test

I’ll start by introducing myself, I’m 39 years old and I’ve just purchased an “X” reg Yamaha FZS Fazer 600cc motorbike (second hand). It’s been nearly 20 years since I last rode a bike at the age of 19 years old way back then. They say the enjoyment of riding a bike never leaves you behind, and this seems to be the case still for me even though I’m nearly 40 years of age. Anyway I have a question I need answering from you people please.

The bike at the moment is in my garage because I need to pass my bike test (I do not have a full bike licence yet). Anyway I heard somewhere that you can pay to have your bike restricted so you can ride a 600cc bike carrying “L Plates” after passing only your CTIB test. Can anybody confirm if there is any truth in this because I was thinking of having this done to the bike so I can at least still ride the bike legally on the road until I pass my bike test in full, at which time I may then pay to have it de-restricted again. To be honest because of the riding position on the bike being an upright position. I may very well leave it restricted after passing my test because if the bike is restricted to 80mph and the acceleration remains the same. This is fast enough for me for the time being.

no I'm afraid not.

it would have to be 125cc.

to take your CBT, you can ride a 125, as long as the power is below 14.6bhp.

once you take your A2 test, (not direct access) then you can ride a bike up to 33bhp for 2 years, then you can ride anything. That's the only place you would restrict a 600.

as you're over 21, you're probably best just taking a direct access test.

i know people who would sellt heir soul to be allowed that on L plates Very Happy

To ride that bike you MUST take your full bike test. details of which are in the link above
