Working out what kit to get.

So I've completed my CBT and will be booking my theory and a place on a DAS course fairly soon so I want to get all the necessary clothing for when I have my full license and go and actually buy a bike.

I'm looking at getting a Kawasaki ER6N and will be using it largely for commuting to work so thinking of going down the route of cordura rather than leathers for that all weather kinda thing.

There seems to be loads available but I was wondering if there are any particular brands that are recommended or any to steer clear of?

Generally anything 'Oxford' is best avoided.

For about four years now my daily kit has been:

Frank Thomas overtrousers.
Weisse X-blade2 Jacket.
Various gloves (takes a few tries to getr ones that suit you).
Tcx Infinity boots.
Couple of summer weight buffs.
Cheap builder's waterproof overtrousers and jacket.
Helmet - find one that fits nicely, but make sure it can take a PinLock.
And last but very much not least, Tucano handlebar muffs for winter.

Problem with gear threads is that everyone's taste and budget is different and therefore trying things on is the only way progress is ever made, take a look on https://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/ and get a good idea of what you like, then visit your local J&S or bike gear shop and try it on, order cheaper online.

Avoid Spada boots, they're awful, but their gloves are pretty good.

RST is reasonable middle of the road stuff.

Helmets, fit is king, you will want to try on a range and buy the one that fits best.

Boots are always controversial, but I wouldn't be in a hurry to spunk too much. If in doubt, add sealskinz socks, and a bit of boot leaking won't bother you.

I recommend RST, reasonable price but highly recommend trying on before buying so you know what size you need.

I've recently started to dabble with second hand gear and to be honest I can't see me buying new again.

Second hand is King. Ebay is kinger. Goretex is kingest.

You need to find a store local that has decent stock, and go tyry the gear on, sizes vary and fit is key,
I find RST jackets fit better then Spada, but someone else may love the fit Spada,
I didnt like A* boots as they were a narrow fit, you get the idea.
