So I've finally got the new computer together and new monitor arrived early so today was the big switch on. Shame I'm posting this from my old one really.

Power up and it all lights up nicely but then doesn't do anything. Can't get into the BIOS as nothing shows on the monitor. The monitor is expecting to be connected by DP input which is right.

The card is lit up but the fans aren't spinning which I would expect but don't know whether they come on at a certain temperature so maybe they shouldn't.

I've looked at all the wires again and everything seems to be in the right place.
Also there is no beep when powering up which I'd also expect but again maybe this one doesn't. I know it's a big ask without seeing it, but any ideas on why I can't see anything?

Cheers FS.

Take the side off the case and snap a picture, post it here.

Try using onboard graphics.

Is the monitor multi-input?
dvi/vga/hdmi
Check you have it set to the correct input.

My money is on the separate 4/6 pin power cable not being hooked into the mobo.

I've got a 6 pin pci connector attached to a separate 2 pin job from the power supply. I guessed the 2 pin attaches to the six and it goes into the 8 pin socket (there is a 6 and 8 socket on the GC).

I looked in the box the card came in and there is a 6 to 8 adapter lead which I've used and you see in the pic.

The monitor is connected by DP cable (whatever the hell that is) and on the monitor setting I see it is set to that.

Surely only the 6 or 8 pin socket is needed, not both?

OK I plugged the SLI 6 pin into the other socket and it didn't go bang. The fans spin for a bit then stop. Still nothing on the screen though.

"sli 6pin" ?

SLI is the term used when using 2 gfx cards and you have a SLI ribbon bridging them, the orangey thing on the right of this pic of my setup.

you need both the 8pin and the 6pin power hooked in.

Whats that stupid power adapter thing you are using?

remove it.

hook in a 6pin and an 8pin

Praise our lord and saviour... cansa.

It happens from time to time, you check everything, think you've done everything and it's something so simple that you kick yourself for not seeing it.

Glad it's sorted Thumbs Up

What you using for email?

Outlook can be a bit of a bitch to configure if you don't have all the correct IMAP / POP3 settings from your host.

I personally use Google Apps for Work, £3.30 a month and it's basically Gmail but with your own domain names.

You can configure Gmail to accept POP3 mail for free but the reply will always come back from your Gmail address.

i.e. Configure Gmail to accept [email protected] emails, I recieve all the mail from [email protected] to my [email protected] account but if I reply to any, it comes from [email protected]

That's the free version that anyone can do. The Google Apps for Work basically is the same setup but allows me to use [email protected] to reply with and you can add about 30 different email addresses under the same user,

i.e. [email protected] / [email protected] / [email protected], etc.

Handy because I don't need any IMAP / POP3 settings, just download the Gmail app on my mobile devices and use Gmail.com on my desktop with desktop notifications enabled. Everything's in the cloud then.

Nothing special, just the one I got with my ISP. They had all the settings I needed on their site so when I'd actually used the correct passwords etc it went quite well.

He says. The mails aren't opening with all the pictures and I need an "app" to see them. WTF!?

I used Outlook for moons, then switched about 5 months back. Handy if you have multiple people in a company too, so everyone gets an account, 30gb storage and all the internal apps to help with work flows a bit better.

I know not everyone wants to pay for an email solution but between Google and Microsoft, there's two good options for peanuts.
