Something that cheap isn't likely to be much better than what you have on board.

Save some more cash and buy an AMD HD7970

Exactly the same as the rebranded R9 280X, apart from you can pick up a used 7970 for around £100 - £120

Define "light gaming"? I have a laptop with an integrated HD8650G and it excels at what I'd define as "light gaming" but my definition might not be yours. Older games, Paradox style strategy games, it does well. I can do Shogun 2 TW reasonably OK. It sucks balls at OpenGL, as do all AMDs. The R7 250 has a Passmark that's much higher (1414 vs 921) but it's still low end.

Look at the games you want to play and do a youtube and google search to see how well they work with it. Also google card + game title + problem and you might find some card or driver specific issues.

As others have stated buy a second hand older card, something that was nearly king of the hill a couple of generations ago. You'll get better value.

In my mind "budget" GPU is about 200......

Still running a 9800GTX+ altho it is def starting to show its age now with newer games...

I find the problem with PC upgrades is that you it is silly spending 80 quid when 120 gets you much better.... but then silly to spend 120 when just 150 is much better.... then silly to spend 150 when 200 is much better etc etc

Apply the same effect to all your components and all of a sudden a 200 quid build turns into 600 quid.... Shocked

American style pricing. Define what specs you need to do what you want, and then just get that.

As already said, OP needs to define "light gaming" - What's he playing? Pacman? Tetris? or does he want the impossible, which is what most people at that price range seem to think, "can I play star wars battlefront on low-med settings?".

Budget to me would be £200 also. I wouldn't spend any less than that on a GPU, usually £500 - £1,000 but then my idea of "light gaming" is different as well Cool

The R7 250x - I don't know what this card will and will not run but the R7 260x, which is about £30 more, is 3x as powerful.

If you really must go that cheap on a GPU, then I would go 2nd hand.

Just had a look and there's quite a few GTX660s on ebay for 100 quid 2nd hand.

A 660 is the weakest card I'd consider upgrading to, less than that doesn't seem really worth the hassle.

Hahahaha knew I'd get some abuse.

Well light gaming imo is once a week stuff , not bothered about 12xAA textures ,shadows etc.

Anyways picked up a r9 270x for 70 pound 2nd hand can't go wrong

I wasn't giving you abuse mate, just better knowing what options you have, even if it means spending a little more than you had in your budget.

Ended up with a decent card there Thumbs Up

Pick up a used 6950, unlock to 6970, happy days.

I'm playing Witcher 3 at 1080p quite happily. Probs only 30fps average, but meh.
