From me, to me:

OK someone had a low speed off, so there's a few knocks, bumps and bruises, but for the price (and it's what I was looking for).... I'm not complaining

A sprout with a nice riding position and a higher top speed than the chuck norris spec R1 too.

Even though 140-150bhp was getting too much for sensible Road use back then, you still had usable drive and could get more fun out of this era bike than a new HP4, R1 or RSV4 etc.

Just watch out for the evil carb icing trick in cold weather.

Nice! Great to see that you found one at a decent price.

adding a little paraffin, redex or similar defeats carb icing.

Well before the gearbox shats itself anyways.

First hand, or internets anecdotally?

Rumour goes that Redex is pretty much paraffin and smellnice. Anyone run it through a mass spectrometer?

Paraffin already smells nice. Razz

The taste has room for improvement though!

Acetone is better at removing stuff compared to paraffin, do let us know how it goes if you put some in your petrol tank. Thumbs Up

First hand. My divvy 600 and GPz1100 were terrible in the cold. The GPz even had carb heaters which did absolutely nothing to stop the damned thing conking out. It did it far less when fitted with pods and much bigger main jets as the ice couldn't block those up.

The bikes were still a bit spluttery but they didn't die completely. Working hypothesis is the less volatile paraffin stops the ice forming/sticking by refusing to vaporise in the cold and mixing with the condensing water so it's moar a slushy mess that the motor can ingest. **edit** paraffin absorbs water according to the wikipediaz **

Judging on it's ability to stop carb icing I'd think it was.

When the carb heaters were broke on the xv535, she had less weirdness in the winter months with a splash of redex in the fuel. Was less of a bitch when i fixed the carb heaters.
