It is an onerous task to remember to turn on your headlights?

Over the past week I've driven past, behind and had behind me 14 cars all blissfully driving around in the dark without any lights. Several had just left the supermarket... Confused

One on the motorway on the M62 near the isolated farm which is partly unlit... Shocked

Even more frequently lots of cars which have an array of LEDs on the front which people for some reason seem to think is fine... except the back lights aren't on... Confused

Last but not least a man who came out of a side street on an unlit street, I honked at him and he gives me a wanker gesture, and still doesn't turn on his headlamps.
Confused

It's always the dark coloured cars too Confused

I must have seen similar amounts over the last couple of weeks.

I presume it's cars with LED type dash displays that light up without the external lights on fooling people into thinking they are.

Or just daft people.

Many new cars have the dashboard lights on all the time, so if the road is lit the driver can be blisfully unaware that they are only displaying marker lights on the front.

There are also those who think that using lights costs fuel.

Daytime running lights. Thumbs Up

Many of these (when you check Rolling Eyes ) only light up the front lights.

So the twats think its OK as they can see the front is light, but never look at the back...

I only noticed ours when reversing and wondered why I was not getting a red glare off the other car on the drive Laughing

I always keep my headlights on. Works for me.

Surely driving a black car without lights, with tinted windows and a black balaclava makes you more visible?

Tell me that dozens of hi-vis-considered-harmful threads can't be wrong. Shocked

This, my Ford (grannymobile) C Max does that and I have driven off on well lit roads at night with no lights on. Missus has too in the Ford, but in her case her own car turns her lights on automatically when it gets dark so I doubt if she even knows what a light switch is for. Laughing

It's part of the creeping automation of cars.

Mrs stinkwheel had a courtesy car last week. A corsa turbo (green, like the hulk car out of tokyo drift). Horrible thing to drive. Skittish and unstable at speed and still only does 106mph flat-out.

Utterly riddled with automatic this, that and the other.

One of which was auto-lights.

I was merrily driving it about through town. Dash message had flashed up auto-lights. Green headlamp indicator lamp was on. Got out of town "Not very bright" thinks I, Turned switch and headlamps came on.

So, it just had sidelights on, not headlights. Despite giving every impression it had turned the headlights on.

Other auto systems to perturb and annoy me included auto wipers which on intermittant setting go too fast in rain and don't come on at all in snow meaning I had a choice of manually using them intermittantly or putting them on slow.

Also auto "eco mode" which is the fastest way I can find to have T-bone crash at a junction. Pull out, put your foot down and sometimes it goes, sometimes fuck-all happens and sometimes it initially moves then goes flat. Changes into eco mode EVERY FUCKING TIME you turn the ignition and you have to push a button next to the radio to turn it off.

So yeah. My bet is auto-lights. They think it's all taken care of. The car may even be telling them their lights are on when they aren't.

I don't think I could cope with a car with so much crap in it. Fucking thing even tries to tell me when to change gear. The frigging steering wheel's like an F1 car. Accidentally caught the speed limiter at some point then landed up pulling onto the motorway and running into a brick wall at 55mph. Centre console thing is constantly lit-up with something, even when "off" which is hugely distracting at night.
