Got one coming up, got flashed doing 37mph by one of those red light camera's which are now measuring speed...

Anyway, what are the courses like? Is it a dangerous Darren was driving too fast and killed little Lucy type thing, or do they actually have anything useful to say?

Also is it attendance based or do you actually have to pay attention? Smile

You attend.
An ex-copper (usually) or a presenter type chat.
Watch some smashing video/s.
Identifying speed limits without signs.
Do some maths-like calculation about the way speed is related to accidents (which although speed is not a major factor in the cause of accidents the effects of speed has a major effect in the consequence.) The effects of speed after the fact is what folk don't consider.
Chats and discussion.
Not allowed to Flame or Abuse any of the retards/arseholes at the course. Sad

What MCN said plus expect to be patronised. Don't argue and do not indulge in any isms (race, sex, sexual orientation, disabled etc) including no disparaging remarks about speed control cameras, or police, or why don't they catch real criminals/terrorists etc.

If you any of the above you get kicked out and they keep your money and still give you points.

I know this because I've done two courses ( Mad )

Didn't get kicked out tho, I was very well behaved but chirped the tyres on the car park as I left, snigger

No idea. If I'm ever dumb enough to get caught, I'll take the points and fine. I'm fucked if I'm wasting a day on that shit.

You'll probably get the video where you are asked to count how many times a ball was passed, too.

Doesn't sound like much fun then Crying or Very sad

I have a real beef with these red light camera's, it's often safer to accelerate and catch-up cars going through a junction, than hang back at 30 and wait for cars to start turning across your path.

If the course's one where independent thought and/or a differing opinion won't be tolerated, then I'll just go to my happy place for a few hours Smile

Done it, it was a 2 day event. 1st morning was spent talking and listening to shit in a classroom environment, we all had to speak about our driving offence that got us landed on the course and it went like some sort of AA meeting Rolling Eyes . Some the folk there really shouldn't have had a license compared to my lame driving offence. One of which was an old lady who ran a red light and nearly killed the occupants of the other other car who needed to be cut out of it. Shocked
In the afternoon we went out in groups with a driving instructor to assess our driving.

2nd day we were out all day with the instructor, We had to listen to his condescending bollocks and constant criticism of our driving. He was even trying to tell me to stop doing my life saver/blindspot check in the car as it was "making him concerned" I told him in no uncertain terms that i would not stop doing my blindspot check only just holding back harsher words like "go fuck yourself c*nt"

Its dog sh!t but if you want to keep the points off your license then you just need to shut yer yap and give it "3 bags full sir"

Going on my day off Wink I'm really doing it to avoid the points, dunno how much 3 points adds to your insurance, but for work it's better having a clean license.

Sit there and resist the temptation to answer all the questions - you will be amazed just how much you do know compared to the non-motorcycling miscreants... Especially if they do the 'spot the potential hazard' video.

Don't be lippy, a smart-arse or flippant. Remember, you can't fail the course but if you are deemed to have 'not benefitted' you will still get the points.

The one I sat was comedy gold!!!

CBA entering all my details for a bike quote, so on a saved car one:
Cheapest to Cheapest quote = £1390 > £1656 with 3 points
Same company = £1390 > £1983 or £1454 > £1656 (both still 2 cheapest)

Obviously gonna be less on a bike but still seems worth avoiding. Those quotes are on a 1.0L Fiesta btw...

Gonna stick to bikes for a while =)

That their working definition?

So if you turn out to be a driving god who should be taking the course in place of the instructor, you didn't benefit?

I'm going to ask (although I already think I know the answer). Do you have to fill in a form at the end stating how strongly you agree with a series of statements about how wonderful the course is, how much you've learned from it and how it will make you a safer driver?

I would take the points too. I couldn't keep my lip buttoned for long enough. I'm allergic to condescending teachery types at the best of times.

I don't know what course you went on , Liam, but it wasn't a National Speed Awareness Course....They take up only 4 hours.

As a previous poster said, expect to be patronised big time Rolling Eyes
They will tell you what a monster you are for being a few mph above the limit.
They will tell you how devastating your actions could be for being 5mph over the limit .

On the bright side, if you have an old Doris on the course like I did on my course, it could be fun.
She let them have it big time and was`nt prepared to give in Smile
They knew she`d been there by the time she had finished Thumbs Up

You do the facking course FFS.

If you have failed to dodge a camera once then you'r likely to fail to dodge another.

Two in a certain amount of time will wank over your ins premium/s.

Word.

Probably about a 10-15% loading. More than an afternoon's wages for some. ANd the loading will be applied for several years. (Not to mention the social stigma. Smile)

But if you fancy your odds then pay the fine and take the points. Confused

On the + side, there may be a couple of fitties on the course too. Thumbs Up Wimin are terrible drivers after all. Razz

I am, it's already booked Smile Reckon I've been flashed 15-20 times so this is probably long overdue, and it was a 'new' camera on my commute, which going by the figures and the amount of times I've seen it go off (since) is catching a lot of drivers.

I reckon that 'Not benefitted' in this case means 'The attendee didn't pay any attention and generally took the piss all of the time.'

No.

I didn't get any of the above. I'd gone fully prepared for a barny if they'd started, but they didn't.
Anyone that's offered a NSAC instead of points would be very foolish not to take the course.

Mind you. I highly doubt a speed awareness course would be in the cards if I get stopped for speeding again.

I've been stopped three times. Last time I was doing 35 over the limit and somehow didn't get summonsed. The time before that I was doing 28.6mph over the limit by the time they caught up with me and somehow was offered 3 points. The time beofre that I was doing 30 over the limit and got let off.
