Hi all, just went through a bit annoying issue here, had my theory on Monday, but after coming back tried booking MOD1 but was unsuccessful - I thought it might be too early, but up until today still wasn't able to book. Tried MOD2 booking and that went well.

At this point I need to mention I have passed theory two years ago, did my MOD1 about two months ago and failed MOD2 after that (on the last day of my theory valid date). This is where DVSA website flaw comes to play - I cannot book MOD1 as the system had a pass mark few weeks ago and is not clever enough to take their own stupid rules of MOD1 expiring with the theory expiry date (why ;( - I've only done it few weeks ago...).

Anyway - had to get it booked over the phone - and another annoyance - only one date available from now to half way through January - bit unfair, as most bookings are taken by local schools and if you try to do it on your own - it's harder than you'd thought. There's only few dates in January and February together so booked the closest one - which happens to be next week. Lots of practicing over the next few days then. Never mind the hurdles. Wish it won't rain in the morning on the test day... Smile)

God damn them. Even their own website doesn't understand their moronic rule? I hope you've at least fired in with a complaint to piss on their silicon chips?

PostPosted: 11:53 - 16 Dec 2015    Post subject: Mod 1 failed due to me being stupid... Reply with quote

Hi all, just failed the Mod 1 today, purely down to my own stupidity (no, Mike, I'm not trying to blame anyone). Did all exercises correct, plenty of space on U-turn and slalom was a doddle - and if I may say this - way different on the old Diversion than on the Kawasaki - I nailed all the slow manoeuvres with ease. Wanted to try how it gets to speed on the first high speed exercise (speed not measured) - the controlled stop. Went over the bend around 20, applied throttle on the way out of the bend and overdone it a tat, due to Divvy having only one disc on the front (bit corroded as well as it was standing few days) first hard braking did not end up the way I expected and I landed about half a metre past the target four cones...... Gutted. Continued with the rest of the test and scored 53 and 54 kmh on the gate whilst doing emergency stop (which went well) and avoidance. Poop.
Managed to book it for next week, but at least I know I'm capable of doing it on this bike (not just my imagination), the bike is capable of getting up to speed in time and stopping safely. And just to add - it was raining today - rain / drizzle - so if I'd been able to do it in such weather I will get there next week. Got a Fazer 600 as well now which came up recently - swapped a car for it - but it's got few issues - if sorted in time might take that to the test, will be much easier to stop on that... Smile)

And yes - the bike (at least at this stage) makes one hell of a difference on Mod 1 - yet I feel more at home on all bikes now, no matter what I'm riding - this wasn't the case few weeks ago.

Bad luck - sounds like you'll nail it next time though. Smile

Hi all, nailed the MOD1 today, all was good, no minors, all by the book. Speeds were 54 and 56 so all tidy.

If anyone's thinking of getting his own bike to get the tests done - simple answer - yes. You can get used to the bike on slow manoeuvres on a local car park. If you're thinking of a Yamaha Diversion XJ600S - double yes - awesome little humble thing that will plod along all day with little worries and easy bike to start with, really forgiving from what I've read as well (especially one as mine - with single front disc - won't throw you in the air, trust me... Razz ). Total cost of my MOD1 would be £400 for the Divvy (that's a keeper) and £31 for MOD1 done twice (tried to speed up on controlled stop exercise - speed not measured - and failed the latter part - the controlled stop itself, landing about half metre past the posts - must've had around 65-70kph...). Just imagine, spoke to a chap who's pupil failed it five times knocking a cone over - so far he spent around £700 for the school's bike and tests - and that's only MOD1 + bike rental charges...

Anyway, thanks for all your support and answers, only MOD2 away from being a proper biker. Will get that as soon as I can after Christmas.

Planning to go with local school for a day as a polish up before the test, might do it with two different schools so I get two independent reviews. Spoke to my instructor and he didn't think I need more training though, been with him out few times and never had any issues. Failed on undue hesitation, no minors, so will think about the training, still would be nice to get out with school's group on my bike to train for the big day...

Merry Christmas to you all and Happy New Year!

Congrats! Its a shame the rules are so utterly stupid, losing your Mod 1 pass, and the changes they brought in a few years ago. Anyway just a short ride left and you've got your license Thumbs Up
