Yes, if it's written off as repairable. The insurance cartel calls that category C or category D, but it's a straight binary choice: repairable, or not.

If it's repairable, you just make it roadworthy, insure it, and go. No need to get it re MOTd.

Those private medicals are expensive, I think mine with a review of medical notes was something like £700, and the c**t doctor didn't spend more than 5-10 minutes on the whole consultation.

Its yet another way they make money off your misfortune. Collect the bike, charge storage fees, have engineers come out the assess the bike etc.

Whether you get the bike (or not) depends on the insurer. Some won't allow you to buy it back, some will insist you keep it (and deduct a lot for the bike), some will want hardly anything for it and let you buy it back.

Thanks for the head's up on that one. The way the guy was talking sounded like he just wanted to get the hospital report(s), but I'll keep an eye out for such sharp practises.

I am beginning to really understand why people loathe insurance companies. The garage I phoned hadn't collected as of 4pm and no answer on the phone. Will call tomorrow because I really don't want the insurance company to gouge on this (I have no doubt they will do that to me in my premiums for evermore anyway). Hopefully they will be reasonable about it (Aviva are the actual underwriters).

Today I did narrowly avoid certain death by losing concentration as I pulled up to work today. Swung into the car park, slowed to a stop ready to paddle the bike back into a space and did gently, and in gloriously horrified slow motion, lower my bike to the ground.

Fortunately I escaped without any broken bones or potato.

I'd paint diagram, but it would only be of my embarrassed face. Embarassed

Almost a year to the day on Tuesday morning.

Pulled out on from a junction half a mile from home - "I came from nowhere" - I wasnt overly happy about the way he was sat at the junction so I was already easing off when he shot across.

I almost managed to stop in time, but the next thing I remember is being on the deck and my head hitting the drivers door.

In case you were wondering the sun was behind him, conditions dry.

Almost no damage to the car.

I got xrayed and checked out, no breaks or permanent damage just bruising and friction burns.

Picked the bike up on the way home.

The bike is not feeling right, front end feels massively unstable so its off the road until it is assessed. Cracked fairing, smashed indicator, snapped off crash bung.

Already feeling twitchy about not riding. Neutral

Paaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaint.

Are you sure you're not dead? That sound pretty nasty.

Wait, friction burns? Did you "lay the bike down" before the impact?

Witnesses? 5-0 attendance? Just wondering how badly you're going to get bummed for deliberately riding into him.

I appreciate your concern for my physical well being Roger :p

Witness was sat behind him in a junction, Police attended; breathelised everyone and recorded statements. I am going to be fine.

Did I lay it down, as in deliberately; Fuck no. I can't remember much from braking to thumping into the door.

What appears to be minimal damage to the bike (number plate broken in one corner) so I'm not really interested in claiming but there does appear to have been quite a large (tennis ball sized) ding in the car front wing and some scratches. I've no idea what part of the bike causes any of that, or how only the number plate got damaged.

My foot was squashed between the car and bike as he pushed into me. Think the boots may well have prevented a crush injury.

Foreign driver was in a bit of a rush to get to Harwich, on roundabout went to take the exit, then didn't just as I was taking it. I was indicating at the time, he wasn't

He kept saying it's dark and I don't know the area, his wife kept saying sorry - she did seem concerned about my foot.

Managed to stay upright.

Exchanged name, address, email, phone but not insurance details - was in a lot of pain at the time.

Question is really about insurance. I get that I need to report it to them, but I don't really want to claim, I'm just interested in doing it so that if he makes a claim my insurance co are already aware of it and don't think I've hidden it from them. What do I do to not make a claim but tell them about it, just phone - is that my NCB totally gone now too or just if a claim is made?

Call your insurance, tell then you don't want to claim and they will make a note.

The details you got are good, only thing I would say is that registration number is usually a good idea.

Even if you were to claim from the sounds if it the other driver would be at fault so your no claims should be secure.

Hopefully your ankle will recover quickly, loving the gif

Jean-Paul Foreigner? Hit from behind and no real damage to your bike? Honestly, I wouldn't bother.

#24

Few days ago has gone through roundabout I mean literally. Few road signs and a somersault later I've landed on the grass. Bike also has landed. On my back.

Apparently I've been 5 minutes LOC. Paramedics have tied me to a stretcher and despite my protest cut off all my gear.

I am fine nothing broken. Can't do paint left handed.

Nobody else involved or injured. Moral of the story - do not ride like a dick Laughing

And ABS brakes don't work well on grass.

I have paid for the best comprehensive insurance so I hope it will pay back now. The bike does not look too bad. Mangled front wheel and front forks only. It is with the the repair company now.

Ride safe guys Thumbs Up

#25 mid-October

Going down a straight road and an oncoming car turns to his right across my path. I point the bike away as best as poss and try to slow it down, but collide with the passenger side front light of his car, fly over the bonnet and roll down the road. Kit worked pretty well, but the hospital people cut it all off. Bike is written off. Only 2 days in hospital which is getting off pretty light. Still hurts though. Luckily i was watching my speed, so after breaking the collision speed was probs only about 30-35mph. I'm surprised this didn't happen sooner tbh.

Speed limit of that section of road can't be more than 30 Shirley?

You forgot to mention the helmet cam footage that goes in your favour. Rolling Eyes

yeah it was a 40. Got the helmet cam footage, the guy admitted liability at the scene, so it's with the insurers now.

#26 - November 6th

Came to a stop at some traffic lights and my right foot slipped to the right... managed to balance against the bike to gently lay it down on the ground. Tried to lift the bike up again but feet just slipped out from under me. Took a total of 3 people to right the bike Shocked

https://www.bikechatforums.com/download.php?id=98650

Injuries: bruised inner leg from it pressing against a hard edge of the bike & a cut to my left wrist from seam in glove(?)

Damage to bike: plastic rocker cover trim slightly scratched.

I wouldn't count on that to have any value because it's up to the insurance to decide who's at fault not us.
