Right just moved in and the boiler is making noise, everything seems to be working right I.e. rads are warm and the water is hot. The part that is making noise is the 'Diverter Valve Head' it is a noise like a relay clicking several times a second.

It is a combined boiler an Ideal Esprit 2.

Any ideas?

I had something similar with mine a while back (Baxi Combi HE). I ended up sourcing a new diverter valve motor from eBay and fitting that. I think the issue with mine was the gears in the motor were getting worn and starting to slip. When it operated, it pressed a pin down on the valve which was quite stiff, so I manually pressed it a few times as well to see if it freed up a bit.

It was a nice easy fix, literally 5 mins, just pull a clip out, lift the motor/gearbox thing off the diverter valve, unplug the cable and reverse to fit the new one.

This Thumbs Up

Did ours not too long ago. If it's playing up it will eventually fail.

Just swap the actuator/powerhead for a new one. Nice easy job, should be £40-60 depending on the type.

Sounds like it is failing, prob best just change to be safe or source a spare and wait for it to fail for maximal use.

I've replaced the actuator on my Ideal boiler too. Its as Pete said around 80quid tho so a bit of a bitch. I once replaced the diverted brass valve body itself, as it leaked and soaked the floor. The price of the valve itself was over £140.

Ideal aren't my favourite make of boiler, but then who makes a quality item anyway these days without cheap and nasty components?
