Hi.

Work colleague bought a 2013 Peugeot 208 GTI from a main dealer.

He has had it since August. Since then its been in for a replacement cylinder head due to VVTi actuator damage which is apparently a known issue in the 208 GTI community.

It was fine, then a month later its alarm started playing up, not arming, arming whilst driving, then going off randomly throughout the night. Fault was found but no fix was possible apparently, cleared code and its now come back a month later.

Now, another engine warning has come up stating engine fault, engine needs repair. This is 3 months after the VVTi replacement.

He is sick of having the worlds most unreliable car, lol Peugeot, did say... but is he still able to return it, its financed so is about 6 months in.

Does he have the purchase contract? Tell him to find the termination conditions. Wink

The right to reject under SOGA 1979 that applied when he bought is weaker and less specific than under the new CRA 2015 which only came into effect in October.

Given how long he's had it and that it sounds like they've been making reasonable efforts to repair it, I wouldn't fancy his chances. It's also well outside the small claims limits, so it'd be Big Boy Court with all the consequent delays and costs.

What I'd suggest is that he has a look at his finance contract. Ultimately he could just stop paying and invite them to come and tow their vehicle away.

I'm not saying that it's a consequence free route, but his goal is to be spending his money on a working vehicle rather than on a liability, right? Asking nicely is unlikely to achieve that, he'll just continue to get mugged off.

But this is uninformed internets rambling. Local Citizens' Advice and/or Trading Standards would be a better port of call.

Tell the dealer they would like to reject the vehicle? I was ready for a bun fight when my car broke down (ok, only fater 13 days) and the dealer took it back with no quiblles and I ended up with a better spec, newer car as a goodwill gesture.

You don't ask...........

The fault was "some code - Alarm fault"

They couldn't find the actual fault, however cleared the code and it didn't return many arms later.
