That this isn't a serious question, you've already decided, and want your choice validated.
However, I also think that if you want a big, roomy, effortless mile muncher with loads of luggage then the Suzuki costs a lot less than litre+ alternatives with fancier badges.
I'd haggle hard on it though, and be prepared to walk away or call around and buy at whichever dealer is most desperate to shift stock.
Also, Street Triple. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Spend less on the bike so that you can buy one of each. |

Depends how you define "good" and "peers". Compare it against other bikes at that price, or for that purpose.
Yes, the Suzuki is £8K and the MT-09 Tracer starts at £8150, but the real (eBay) price on the Suzuki is £7400, and that's unregistered. There's an unregistered 0 mile 2014 model up for £6200 without luggage.
£7400 gets you 3 piece luggage, ABS, hydraulic clutch, span adjustable levers, height adjustable seat, centre stand and 108 (new) / 80 (old) torques peaking at just 3700 rpm. Peak power is low, but enough to lose your license.
It's not new technology, it won't win Top Trumps, but it's tried and tested and has no surprises.
The 257kg wet weight (with the luggage) is a complete red flag for me, but if were a big chap looking to tour on a tight budget I wouldn't rule it out. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

I've ridden one for quite a while as a hire bike, they aren't bad bikes, and the weight isn't noticeable at anything above walking pace, it's just everything else I've ridden in that class is noticeably better.
I'd rather spend 6K on a nearly new version of one of the others, a couple of years down the line it'll be in better shape than the rot box. The ONLY reason to get one is because you MUST have a new bike for some reason and can't afford the others.
When I think about why I would buy various bikes, the reason is always a feature of the bike, not simply because it is cheap. ____________________ Well, you know what they say. If you want to save the world, you have to push a few old ladies down the stairs.

^ Sounds a bit strange to me.
So currently you cycle for your commute, and yet you are thinking of replacing a pushbike with an RC390 for the same purpose? What makes it such a good bike for a commute that you can do on a pushbike (so I'm surmising here that it's not a long commute, or on very busy fast roads, or with a lot of steep hills?)
Couldn't a little basic roadster or lightweight or scooter do the jobs as well or better than your pushbike?
Secondly you said replace your car with a GSX1250F for weekend trips? This sounds more ridiculous than the first scenario IMO. If you have a perfectly useful, reliable and practical car, and have been using it for X amount of time to cart stuff around at weekends or carry shopping etc in, then boy are you going to miss it!
And if you think a 1250cc bike with lots of luggage and carrying capacity can replace the usefulness of a car for such situations, I think you'd realise this is a mistake?
Instead of coming out and saying 'I want to buy a bike because fun and just want one so I will', your trying to make valid reasons as to why you need one, and what jobs it could do for you better than your existing personal transport devices.
It's almost like saying I want a new cordless drill or a new Hi-Fi and trying to justify it with logical reasons and uses that it would be worth it's value in gold for. Sure a bike can be a useful tool or a form of congestion busting hustle me to work faster transport, but nearly always there's no big list of practical uses and reasons why you need one, or need a particular type either.
Oh and I agree with Chris, in that price alone does not make for a good purchase decision for a new or used bike, but especially when your looking at getting 8grand deep into it. For me I'd expect a awful fucking lot of new motorcycle to even consider throwing down 8K.
There's a possible price only argument for a dirt cheap Ching chong utility bike, that's probably £££'s not more, in that you could in some situations take a gamble on it, and consider it a disposable item, but one that might last some time until you can get something better? But this approach is not a good one, when you going into it for Suzuki 1250 kind of cash. |
