Remove all the bits you want painted and take them to your local spray shop and let them do the rest. Very Happy

Up to a point but with your normal base colours they are all about the same.

If you want some strange metal flake effect you could be talking silly money for example we had a skyline in at work for some crash repairs and the pain on that was about £600 a liter to us and he needed 3 liters of this paint.

I'm no expert but:

Preparation, preparation, preparation! clean, perfectly smooth and grease/dirt free before you start.

Mask anything that wants masking properly. Screw a bolt into any captive nuts.

Multiple thin coats, allowed to dry between.

Somewhere dry and DUST FREE to dry the paint.

Use rubbing compound as necessary.

Finish off with a T-cut then a good polish.

Practice spraying an even 'strip' on something else, try to pass back and forth over the bit to be painted, change direction off the item to avoid an excessive build up of paint at the turning point.

Be aware of where any overspray is going (like the neighbours washing line etc.)

An abrasive paste, used on a cloth to polish out any slight imperfections, raised areas or overspray. More abrasive than T-cut and leaves the surface of the paint with a slightly matt finish which can be sprayed over with laquer if desired or polished with T-cut then wax polish to a good even gloss finish.

I suppose the other way is to use cold curing 2-pack epoxy. If you are feeling rich.

Slap it on any old how then marvel as the hard gloss finish smooths itself out before your very eyes.

if you go to a car refinishing specialist they sell it, but you need spray gear to use it. Its also toxic, so don`t spray in a confined spay without proper BA.

I slapped it on with a brush, they had some left over at work (holiday job) from a specific job. Painted it on fairly thick on the tank, laid it off like using gloss paint on wood and left it to cure in the airing cupboard. I wasn't expecting it to look neat, it was just that my tank was going rusty, landed looking like it had been done by a professional Smile

Didn't know it was toxic though Rolling Eyes

assuming that we are talking about the same stuff (usually known as "2-pack" ) the catalyst is cyanide based and can make you quite poorly.
