I have worn contact lenses off and on for a couple of years now. Useful for doing things where my varifocal glasses just don't work or fall off.

However I still have trouble getting them in my eyes. Sometimes they go straight in, sometimes seem to stick on my finger whatever I do and other times fall out onto the floor as soon as I take my finger away.

I just can't seem to get any consistency. Has anyone got an infallible method I can try?

Monthly disposables if that makes any difference.

Before putting them in, dry the front of your eyeball with tissue.

Apply one or two drops of superglue to the concave surface of the lense - too much will squidge out and stick your eyelid.

Et voilĂ , permanent eyesight rectification Thumbs Up

Just make sure it isn't stuck to your finger, put it lightly on and ensure it doesn't compress. Got to be gentle with them. Can help if you put so solution in your eye before hand

OP, your fingers must be completely dry when you handle constant eye lenses, they stick to what is wet/moist.

Not really.
Just practice, I guess.

Wore them for over 15 years, invariably there's a day when it just doesn't go right. But as time goes by there are less of them.

Thinking about taking them up again, as it goes ...

To avoid them falling on the floor or loosing them I placed a mirror on the floor resting against a wall and put a clean towel in front of the mirror and then just sit on the towel that way if a contact falls out I have a small area to search and reduces the chance of amount of dirt gathered on the lens.

The method to put them in and out is exactly that, some days they're a pain in the arse and can tell when you're in a rush and others they go in and out without trouble.. just be as gentle as possible with them and try and open your eye as much as possible when putting them in and taking them out.

Dry fingers. Put 1 or 2 drops of solution in the lens. When you place it on the eyeball, gently slide it around, this gets all the air bubbles out. At a guess, in 10 years of wearing lenses, they fail to go in about 5 times a year.

Just practice then! I'll have to wear them more often than the couple of times a month do now. Sad

I've worn contacts every day since I was about 12, but it did take me bloody ages to get them in at the start.

If the're sticking to your index or middle finger, try using your ring finger. It's a bit easier cause it's smaller so they don't seem to stick onto it as much.

Also although a bit uncomfortable, I find it easier to put them in quite dry beause they suction on to your eye really easily that way. Then I just put a couple of eye drops in after if necessary Thumbs Up

Having worn lenses for 25 years I have never really had trouble getting them in...but I do now and then have trouble getting them out. Ending up with major red eye!!

My routine for putting In is take the lens out the packet..take out lens with left hand and place on tip of index finger on right hand..hold it up to the light to make sure the lens is the right way round (my lenses have writing etched into them so it's easy to see if inside out) ...then pull eyelid apart with fingers of left hand and put the lens in. I always make sure the lens is full of solution as I find this help it attach to the eye and also gives it a clean.

Practice really...and also fill the lens with solution before you put it in...that may help.

That's my number one bit of advice too.

Remove from the case gently. Put them on the tip of your finger gently. Put them into your eyes gently.

Just be gentle!

It's just practice. Once you get a technique nailed you'll find it's a piece of piss.

I can do each eye one-handed and, I reckon, I could put both in at the same time if I was so inclined.

That's after 28 years' practice every day though.

Hands cleaned and dry, no new fluffy towels thank you.

Left contact lens:

Have the lens on the top of your first finger, right hand.
With the first finger of your left hand push your closed eyelid up and hold it open.
Move the left hand into position and put the second finger just below your eye, use that finger to pull down gently, opening up the eye from below.
With the eye wide open and held top and bottom you can gently place the lens right in the middle of your eye ball.

Right lens, similar to above, swapping lefts for rights and vice versa.

I didn't realise my finger holding the lens had to be dry, I've been doing it with a wet finger thinking that you had to keep the lens wet.

It is much easier with a dry finger and lens. Brick Wall

Thanks all helpful tips every one Thumbs Up

I can't rider a motorbike with glasses! Cheap 125CC motorbikes

When I did my motorcycle CBT I tried contacts.

When I started using contact lenses, I just couldn't get them in! Then I tried applying them in the corner of my eye and guiding them to the pupil, which works a treat for me.

Best check with your optician if that's ok though Very Happy

I've found the trick is to get In front of a mirror, get the lens on my finger. Then look up towards the ceiling so there is a nice gap between my eyelids, and place it on my eye just under the pupil, making sure all the edges are on my eye. Then I look down to push it onto my pupil, blink and it's done.
That reminds me, I need to order more lenses, I don't want to wear glasses under my helmet when I start riding.
