Is it too early to start running a sweepstake for dates on Phil the Greek?

Clive James probably doesn't have long.

Mind you he's been near deaths door for so long now, I thought he was dead a few times.

As with Denis Norden, I thought he died many many years ago.... or am I just thinking of their TV careers?

He's said that he's embarrassed to still be around after announcing in 2015 that doctors had told him he was "near to death".

Suppose it depends on how you define "near" really.

I believe those pictures come from his period with Joe Meek's house band, The Outlaws (which also included Richie Blackmore at one point) who were booked to back that tour - apparently, Chas honed his piano playing skills under the tutelage of The Killer, which is a serious claim to fame.

He also played with Cliff Bennett and the Rebel Rousers (which I think is where he met Dave Peacock) and Heads, Hands and Feet, which featured Albert Lee as lead guitarist.

I don't often get touched by the death of celebs, mostly they are just people on a screen, but I was lucky enough to meet Chas and Dave a couple of times and see them perform.

People used to laugh at me when I recommended them as a live act you must go and see, until they saw them and then it suddenly turned into one of the best gigs they'd ever been to.

And you couldn't meet a nicer couple of blokes, with such a wealth of anecdotes about some of the superstars of popular music; it's just a shame that they haven't been recognised by the wider public, as the superstars they are.

I’m genuinely saddened to read that Chas Hodges has died.
I went to see Chas & Dave years ago and expected it to be all ‘gertcha’

It wasn’t, they did a wide and varied set, they were bloody good.
Didn’t miss a beat all night.

RIP , me old sunshine Thumbs Up

Chas and Daves Christmas Jamboree bag was played to death on our old record player when I was a kid. I only know the
old east end songs because of them. What a shame.

Enjoy

Another one who liked them.

I presume it must be like losing a spouse when half of a partnership like that passes on.
