He's the author of so many fictional/fantasy works in the political arena, mentioned in the Simpsons, and was also in the Borat movie so why not?

Chuck Yeager, big-balls test pilot and first man to break the sound barrier in level flight.

Did well to make it to 27 let alone 97.

Resting in piece, so easily could have been resting in pieces after some of that crazy experimentation. Health and safety? Never heard of them!

Chuck wasn't much of a fan of the British

I'd heard stuff like this before about him and that he was not a big hit with his own side. I read his autobiography years ago and he came across has having a bit of a chip on his shoulder. There's an idea that his bosses stuck him in the X-1 as he was expendable rather than some ace of aces.

"But when people challenged the general on his scathing opinions, he at least took the time to explain himself.

‘The Brits weren’t so friendly when we were fighting their war for them.

‘A simple thank you will do,’ he added."

He'll not be missed. 🙄

"Their war for them." Cunt.

It was his outspoken attitude that prevented him becoming a part of the astronaut corps at its inception.

That he was a highly skilled test pilot isn't in doubt - nor is the fact that he was a highly skilled and respected fighter pilot.

He was a driven man that pulled himself up from very humble beginnings, never went to college but educated himself and became the most decorated US pilot.

@Ribenapigeon: So what have you done to leave your mark on the world apart from getting someone sacked then? Laughing

That's sad. Did he manage to write the second part of his biography before he karked it? I've been waiting for that. I'll always associate him with the epic retreat from The Ogre with broken legs! Probably not the one he'd have people remember the most. But then to us non climbers, those kind of adventures seem to be the ones that stick in the mind - Joe Simpson! Laughing

He was someone I admired as a kid when aeroplanes were my passion. As a kid you don't care much about someone's politics, and it's a sad reflection on society that some people have to politicise everything and everyone. It's a very twisted view of the world.
